Re: LITHUANIA 2018
Someone can explain/translate this "drama" Lietuvis BernadetteCydonia
Andrius Užkalnis is a well-known
laughing stock correspondent on the newspaper Lietuvos Rytas and its Tuesday magazine called Stilius where he talks of restaurant experience and some other shit. In our selection he commented all the Semi 1 songs after hearing them for the first time.
let's translate the clips he played:
Gabrielius Vagelis's song reminded him of the usual Balkan variety stuff, those types of songs do not win Eurovision. It felt like a snoozefest track for him.
This one was about GeraiGerai & Silvija: Some vocal line (idk how to properly translate that) was criticized for being too simple and in his opinion the audience of that day would appreciate such vocal line. It should be much more simple, candy-like, and that way is a good way.
Kotryna I think: mixture of disco and soul music / this kind of music is not awaited by fans in Eurovision, they're rather waiting for something more European than a failed Beyoncé copy.
The dude wanted to ask the broadcaster why was Andrius invited in the first place to mock the contestants. He's complaining that Andrius has no education(?) in music whatsoever, and he's just a journalist. He was disappointed that Andrius mocked everyone (not quite though imo) and that in the selection we shall be supportive of each other. Then he complains that Beyoncé has never done R&B like the one of Kotryna's song's. Also he wondered since when he's a stylist and a choreographer:
(another clip plays, these were comments for The Roop): There's a lot going on the stage during this performance / the choreography went nowhere, the clothing (my note: he was especially refering to the pants) looked like
this, something needs to be changed in there
Then the guy joked he couldn't dance salsa or waltz without stepping on a
dumpling that fell out of his pocket (he once had a brand of his own dumplings being sold until the selling of the product was cancelled because of a terrible smell). He then stated that it doesn't matter what our opinion is about his talking into the camera, it's just that he's sad that we're living in such country. And there is one more thing: he is much younger than Užkalnis and he believes Užkalnis should politely teach the young people of how to behave in society or something, but now it's the young people and the young musicians in this selection that have to teach HIM about what's going on, how to behave properly and how to respect each other. Then he quite reinstated what he said earlier and played another clip, about Godo this time:
"It's a national North Korean song and dance performance. Absolutely a non-Eurovision thing. *a pause for him to let out a couple of sounds*"
And maybe this was for Jurgis: "Not a memorable enough song so that I could excuse such choreography."
The boy then says that people's reactions to his words were positive. He read a 15min.lt article the other day and generalized the comments like 'ooh Užkalnis is a great man, he should have a spot in the jury instead of those 4 other people because he's great!' He then noted that these people in the actual jury are actual professional people. Esp. Ramūnas Zilnys who understands music well. His life is based on that. And he says genuine and on-point comments about all the bad and the good stuff about the song and what it means. And then comes in Užkalnis, who sweeps everything away with his negative view on everything.
This person ends the video by telling us the viewers to think about all of this once again. And once again highlighted that Andrius's words were outright bullying.
e: What makes this rant special is that it's done by Deividas Bendžius, Kotryna's manager. And a Delfi.lt article was written about it.
