Re: LATVIA 2018

Beautiful performance by Madara xlove Maybe she has a chance of winning Supernova after all if she won her semi? It would be a really beautiful addition to the line-up in semi 2, even if she might not qualify it's a quality act with the potential of great staging!

Re: LATVIA 2018

Madara's really going to need to work on those nerves if she's going to get Latvia a good place in Lisbon. Fortunately the quality of the song is good enough imo to cover a less-than-stellar vocal performance, and as we saw with Blanche last year it will make big difference once she is able to get more comfortable with presenting herself live. Even with the performance issues Esamiba is by far the best choice in Supernova, for me it's simply a difference between being top-20 or top-10 quality in May.

She only started nervously…the song is extremely hard to sing btw..
that melody and rhythm…uhh really complicated..
She had some problems with rhythm and intonation until 01:00, from that moment she has changed a bit intonation and embarked on fully into the flow of the melody and to the end i think it was totally all right..

The dress is fantastic actually, at least for me, I liked it in the combination with the background..

Definitely agree on the outfit- at first I didn't like it and thought it looked like something a Irish act in the 90's would wear, but then I also like the fact she avoided the easy option of black dress/black background which I would have expected.

Maybe she has a chance? She always had a big chance, now with Markus Riva eliminated, it would be a shock if she didn't win.

Re: LATVIA 2018

"Esamība" is a song that would be more appealing to me perhaps if we were back in the 90s when the music being played was live. Salvador got things right last year, and that was by stripping everything away from the performance. No people on stage pretending to play instruments. The problem here is that playing the cello is obviously Madara's schtick, her life even, so taking that away and just making her sing the song in that same way is probably an impossible as well as unfair ask. The unfortunate thing though is that the performance as it is now feels tacky, not at all helped along by her big princess dress and jewel headband. I get what this is trying to bring to Eurovision and I appreciate that. It's just hard for me to get into a mimed performance that's taking itself deadly serious. But hey, will this even matter though to the audience watching? Probably not but I wish it did matter more so that change could happen with the contest.

The song itself is ok. I see it's appeal but i'm nowhere near as crazy for it as some of you are here. My feelings conflict. If it goes to Lisbon which people seem to think it will, then I hope I soften over time. I'm being so stony this year and I don't quite know why.

Madara was really nervous! I hope she's more relaxed in the final because this absolutely needs to win!

Also, I'm not sure about the cello on stage. Yes it's a part of the song and it's very important for her but everyone knows she's not actually playing, so it looks a bit ridiculous. I hope they can find another way to stage this

Tinkara played the flute, Raphael Gualazzi played the piano, Alexander Rybak played the violin... Neither of them looked ridiculous I guess :) They just need to make the best out of it since it is so important in the song.

I think the artists should be allowed to at least play the instruments they bring to the stage, it doesn't make sense for them not to play xshrug

Same! I think that's silly tbh. I remember Tinkara asked the Danish team if she could play the flute live. Unfortunately, she had to pretend to do so. :?

I remember that too, it might be the reason why some singers don't want to compete in the contest actually...

She wrote and composed the entire song herself with the Cello. She is a Cello player. Putting her on stage without would be lunacy. Even though you can't hear her playing it, she is playing it and it's basically an extension of herself. There are some things they can change with the staging, but the cello must be front and centre.
