Since 0 CET the voting period for Söngvakeppnin 51 is officially over and we got a winner.

The final ranking looks like this:

The winner is a "wire to wire" winner. It shared the lead with another song after the first voting, but then it got a huge voting by the next voter and took a lead which it never gave away. It was a pretty boring voting period because always when the ranking seemed to get tighter, I received a voting that pushed the number 1 forward again. So basically it had an advantage between 3 and 7 points to the 2nd place all the time and is consequently a worthy winner. I'm satisfied with this song winning. There are two songs that I like a bit more than the other two and the winner is one of it.

I wanna say thank you to the 13 persons who spended a part of their precious free time for listening to the four contenders, In my last big NF for WV Reykjavik 46 I got 11 voters so 13 is an improvement. I think there could have been more people but recently we had like 20 NFs at the same time and people gotta set priorities. For example, I didn't vote for Polish and Italian NF (and I'm sorry about that ) Under these circumstances I am happy with 13 voters (even though 13 is an unlucky number :? )

Once again a radical genre change from the mainstream Leya to this retro synth-indie-pop or whatever song I'm not good in ordering songs into genres sorry Whatever, it's so damn relaxing, with this slightly melancholic sound it makes me fading away and gives me a good feeling. I guess the RainyWoods deep inside of me awakes when I listen to the song. It's one of the songs I used to listen few years ago and forgot it later. I found it again when I looked through some playlist.

Tilbury has founded in 2010 and this song is from 2012. The drummer of this band Magnús Tryggvason was earlier active in Sin Fang, my act from WV 40

You might be confused about the video. It consists of snippets of an Icelandic low-budget (trashy) horror TV-movie from 1987 which is called "Tilbury" . I read contradictional informations about the plot. As far as I know the movie is set in 1940 when Iceland was occupied by British army. The main protagonist returns to Reykjavik to join the army or to improve his swimming skills. Or maybe he has to improve his swimming skills to be allowed to join the army. Whatever. He observes his former sweetheart or a girl he likes who has an affair with a british soldier. Later it turns out that this soldier is actually a monster. In the Icelandic folklore there exists a creature called "Tilberi" that looks like a worm and drinks the milk from cows and stuff like this. I think he might be this kind of monster. Even with this attempts of explanation many scenes in the movie seem to be bizarre, I guess I will try to watch this movie one day if I find a possibility


However, better set your focus on the great song than on the video. I hope you can enjoy like I do. I think this song gets better if you listen to it more often.

As I feared before (cause this kind of song doesnt do well in a contest like this) this WV became a disaster for me and it's the first time I miss a final since edition 43. At least I reached the 17th place so it was actually close. With a luckier draw I would have reached the final but on the other hand the Reju results are not overwhelming for me either so I can't complain about bad luck regarding the draw.

I already started plannings for WV 52. Well, actually there isn't a lot to do, I already knew what to send before and the bad result in WV 51 didnt have any influence on it. After a disappointment looking ahead on the next contest is the best thing you can do. will be back, no doubt and hopefully stronger than before.

The band for WV 52 will consist of one person who already took part in WV before, so there will be a returning artist

When people think on artists from Iceland, they might think on some ESC artists, on Björk, on Of Monsters and Men - or on Sigur Rós. It took me 14 editions until I decide to send the most popular band from Iceland to the WV. I have a broad knowledge about the Iceland Music industry, so there were several other great artists I wanted to send before. Moreover, I didn't wanna send such a beautiful song like Hoppipolla too early.
Sigur Rós already participated before with "Varuð" which is also in my Top 5 of favorite Sigur Ros songs, some people will remember. I dont because it was far before I joined the WV In WV 48 I already sent Sigur Rós' lead singer Jónsi with his touching song "Tornado" which was unfortunately criminally underrated in the final. However, Hoppipolla is a special song and I'm optimistic that it will be liked by many people here.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people already knew the song "Hoppipolla" before. It was used in advertisements and in the trailer of the BBC series "Planet Earth" and got famous and reached the 24th place in the British charts in 2005. A (horrible) sample of this song called "Poppiholla" by Chicane even reached 7th place in the Britsh charts 4 years later.
Later on it was used in movies like "We bought a zoo" or as a trailer song of "Slumdog Millionaire" and it appeared in several commercials and videos or as background song for TV shows.

Why did I chose the Planet Earth trailer instead of the Official Video? Well, I just love the synthesis of the captivating landscapes and the epic instrumentals in this song. Moreover if I'm not wrong this version has higher volume than the official video I found on youtube and this is a song thatt gets better the louder you listen to it.
The official video is great and cute. It's about a group of seniors who behave like children, strolling through the streets, doing pranks like prank buzzing and jumping into poodles ("jumping into poodles" = Hoppipolla). Later on they meet another wild senior gang and the two gangs start fighting against each other Very funny, I highly recommend you to watch it as well.
