It's pretty amazing indeed. However maybe I have to delete it from the video (although it fits so well ) when I look at the audio settings there is written that it's copyright and I could get in trouble and blah. Don't know how serious I gotta take this

Talking about Iceland instrumentals... you know there are some great composers like Johann Johannsson and Olafur Arnalds. Johannsson created the score for the brandnew movie "Sicario". I gotta check out this score. I really wanna send an instrumental to the contest one day jiust need to find the one that convinces me

No comment about Silvia Night... the hot Icelandic icons I save for the future.

Yes, I love Johann Johannsson and Olafur Arnalds. I own albums from both. Olafur's "Living Room Songs" is one of my favourite records ever. I've listened to it a crazy amount of times over the years. So, so beautiful. I'm not very keen on his more recent collaborations and vocal tracks though sadly. I suppose "Fyrsta" I would say is the most poignant piece for me of all his songs, along with a devastatingly sad piece called "Himininn er að hrynja, en stjörnurnar fara þér vel", that has words from a speech synthesizer. It kills me. I can't think of another song that turns me into more of a wreck.

I'm surprised you have got away with this video on youtube in the first place. I tried uploading my NF recap video there and I was hit with 8 copyright claims and it was blocked automatically. I had to upload it on Vimeo

Oh and "The Green Leaves Of Summer" is wonderful. I'm listening to The Brothers Four version of it now

It depends on the copyright, some you get a notification about it next to the song, but the original owner has given permission for other people to post it. So therefore we can all see it, which is what you have got. Had they not given permission it would be blocked worldwide.

This was the first video I made for years and in early times I made only cheap troll videos with a friend including insider jokes and stuff like this. This was the first serious video I uploaded ever.

Great recap About the copyright laws, Youtube ones are getting harsher than ever these days I had to make pic vids for FSC and 90% of them were blocked worldwide, only 2 if I remember well received the permission from the singer(s)

As Jamie already predicted (gosh, he knows my taste too good :? ) the female artist I announced before is the band Rökkurró with its brilliant lead singer Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir. Her voice is really incredible. Hardly heard a higher voice... it's such a characteristic... you can know if it's a Rökkurró song by listening to the first words cause her voice is unique.
What I love about the song is this amazing contrast of these wunderful melancholic verses on the one hand and then this explosive and powerful chorus on the other hand. At the moment my favorite song of this band even though there are another great hits on their album "Í annan heim". their second album "Innra" is not that good but as you might remember they had a song in my NF for 51 from the second album, so also there are nice songs.
In future I will more often send returning artists. All my artists have several good songs and many had good results in their first attempt, so why don't give them another try? Rökkurró is one of the bands that will return to the WV one day. I can already do this statement at this early point no matter if they fail or succeed.

Sooo as you can read in the title 's next entry will be an returning artist.

To be precise there were two persons I already sent twice but people maybe didn't even realize that :
Haukur Heiðar Hauksson was the singer of Olafur Arnalds' masterpiece "A hundred Reasons" in WV 44. Moreover he is lead singer of Dikta that took part in WV 47.
Jon "Jonsí" Birgisson caused a Tornado storming over the WV community in WV 48 and delighted the people later as lead singer of Sigur Rós in WV 52.

Now the question to you guys: Who will be the next returning artist?

You can write your assumption in this thread... I don't give a hint I just say it's an artist that means a lot to me.

Haerra is the first song of Ásgeir's sensational debut album Dýrð í dauðaþögn from 2012 whose title song I sent to WV 49 before. Dýrð í dauðaþögn is still the best sold debut album ever in Iceland and approximately every 10th person in Iceland bought it.
To expand abroad Ásgeir recorded an album with english versions of all these songs. In terms of translations he was helped by the American singer-songwriter John Grant who lives in Iceland for severeal years

This is the lyrics of the English version. It's obviously not an exact translation of the Icelandic lyrics but the essence and the message is the same. John Grant did an amazing job here!

Here the English version:

I prefer the Icelandic version for three reasons:
- In my opinion the metre of the verses fits better in Icelandic version
- I play as Iceland so Icelandic lyrics is just consequent.
- Icelandic is more beautiful

The Icelandic songs were written by Asgeir's dad Einar Georg Einarsson who is a known poet in Iceland.
To understand the meaning of Haerra its helpful to read this statement:

"In our minds we travel to the celestial sphere and we hear the harp sound of the wind. Everything we see with our eyes turns blue because blue is the colour of distance and eternity. From such a distance the works of men are put in perspective and seem amazingly small."

I guess, sometimes we just need to go higher.

I think some of you guys will know that situation: Before the results show you don't expect anything but failing in SF cause the competition is too strong. Then you tell yourself: "At least I can't get disappointed then"
However, after you realized that you really not qualified you are still disappointed and sad and it pulls you down

In general I can be satisfied with my Worldvision "career" so far. I belong to the rather successful jurors here. But one day you reach a point in which you got accustomed to do well regularly and to be involved in the final. That's why a failure like this one gives me a weird feeling and many thoughts are circulating through my mind: Did I chose a bad/boring song? Should I have made my decision more carefully? After all, I think I was just unlucky.
In SF1 i think there were quite a lot people who liked this song and the competition wasn't that strong (I suppose, it's hard to prove that). In SF2 there were hardly people who were likely to enjoy my song but I would have had excellent chances to qualify by REJU voting... It doesn't help to think about that.

Two further factors that makes my failure harder to accept:
- The WV is hosted in my home city. I know it's actually just some banners and stuff like this but it's so nice that my not that known city is represented in a worldwide forum and it would be the cherry on the cake if I was in that final
- Ásgeir is one of my favorite artists If not his songs make it then at least his voice deserve 1st place in WV

Looking into future:

As it's written in the title I plan to organize a NF only with instrumental songs

First of all: I had this idea long before the WV 54 took place. I didn't send an instrumental song before and in terms of instrumentals Iceland really have some nice artists/songs. Actually I think this NF will be the riskiest thing I ever did in WV... It won't be easy to even find an acceptable amount of voters.

For WV 57 another NF is planned. The motto of this will be "returning artists" some known bands and singers you will find there

About WV 58... I think I will need discuss with the mods cause I intend to send a singer that didn't grow up in Iceland but is living there for some years... That's the only hint I give you. I don't think that anybody apart of RainyWoods will be able to figure it out anyway

Dear Flo, I think I know how you feel right now. I've only been playing the game a short while but after a really successful start, i'm starting to slip up now. It's disappointing and you begin to question yourself. You mustn't though. Music is a subjective thing and the only important opinion is your own. Of course, this is a game though. We're obviously all competitive and want to do well. That's the bummer

Your Ásgeir's song wasn't at all bad. In fact, it was beautiful. All his music is. I don't think it quite had (at least for me) that instant emotional pull of the other song of his you shared with WV. You always put a lot of thought and heart into your choices. You're a very passionate person and that's why the failure hits so hard. I'm sorry you didn't make it, and i'm also sorry for only giving you 4 points in this semi, after my previous 12 for Ásgeir. It was the hardest semi i've ever had to vote in.


This instrumental NF sounds absolutely amazing though, especially as I think I have an idea who a couple of the composers are gonna be Can't wait. I know I said I wouldn't do another NF until the new year... but now that i've failed again, and I have two weeks of doing nothing....... I secretly wanna do one! A smaller NF and with a specific theme/genre like you're doing.

Talking about Academy Awards... In fact, one of my artists in Instrumental NF was once nominated for AA but didn't win it at the end. However, this guy was born and grew up in Iceland.
