Re: GREECE 2015
I think "Jazz & Sirtarki" is okay, but it doesn't have any depth to it, I think Greece should send something that could translate to their current status. If you look both into Maria Elenas and Shayas songs, both can be applied to Greece's political and economic statement now and before much more. I loved the 2013 entry for example, not only cause it was fun and catchy, but because I felt it had some depth into it, even if I don't know a single word in greek. When I have read the lyrics afterwards I have understand that my feelings were true and that it meant so much more than that "Alcohol Is Free".
In Maria Elenas song I could really feel the desperation of feeling left out and want someone to reach out and save you. This fits very well, not only in love, but with the feelings that the greek people that might have felt this once or twice in the recent years. Also a beautiful and well sung ballad this one!
Shayas song may seem quite easy to listen to and really brings you in quite some party mood, but if you really analyze the lyrics here and think about the political situation, this is actually something that has a little depth into it too. It has really been some years of "Winter season" and that they have tried to come out of this never ending recession and all they want now is some Sunshine, that stays and be their "husband" and warms up the country again. Then it gets to "summer season" and "we", from other countries can come back and enjoy our vacations there again without worries!
I have read many that has been afraid of songs with slight "political" feelings to it and I have been that in the past, but I am actually more and more turning to the opposite. Sometimes songs gotta have a reason to exist, not only sing a song about nothing basically, that is just pointless in my opinion, than I rather have songs, with some slight extra emotion to it, that has something more, beneath the lyrics and the melody. And after all, we are in quite distrubing times in Europe at the moment, so it is not weird that we have quite many songs this year with some serious tone to it or at least showing something that has a meaning to it, and that in many cases is great and shows that Eurovision isn't all about glamour and jokes, it has something more, something unique that doesn't exist anywhere on this planet we live on.
Now maybe there are one of the other three songs that has some emotional feeling to it, or maybe the greeks just want to have something to keep their mind off, like "Jazz & Sirtarki". Anyhow, my hopes is on Maria Elena and Shaya, and both work for me, maybe I prefer Shaya, cause after all we still got many ballads in Vienna and we need a few more party starters to this!
