I, being from Serbia, hardly can believe Esma Redzepova was complaining for singing in Gypsy language..that must be misunderstanding (from article) or a lie.. :/

Maybe, but that's what the transcript said though xshrug ... perhaps it's wrongly translated or mis-quoted.

But I can get it, I mean maybe she feel like they want her to sing in Romani to make a point that she's a Gypsy? Like some sort of "positive racism"... understand?

Maybe, but I doubt that seriously, she performed in Gypsy language abroad A LOT, and some of most popular recent songs (feat. Kiril Dzajkovski f.e.) she also sings in gypsy language..

Yes, but maybe in this case she feels like the broadcaster want to present her "like the Gypsy singer" ... you get what I mean?

I mean, she is... but maybe she feels like she's just there to be "the gypsy"

She wanted to sing on Macedonian actually. I think her complaint was that the new song doesn't bring them together much as a duet, but rather as he sings something and then she does.

I think the drama is over now. They will be doing some promo, hopefully.

I hope Esma will have a GREAT return next year like Valentina, with a song of her style.

I guess they will fix the song as far as they can so all involved are quite happy with it!
I mean they had to "create" this within 4 days or something ... so this can't be a masterpiece! Now they have almost 2 Months to make it "better"!

I fully agree with this. In fact the way the song is written and presented it makes perfect sense. Its like they see him as the legit singer who is front and center and her part is to stand in the back looking exotic and then sing a few parts in the Gypsy language. She's there only to add color to the performance and bring attention to a song that most people would probably skip over. It looks like her whole participation is seen as a gimmick by the broadcaster. She probably feels insulted by all of it. At least thats the vibe I get from her comments.

Yes, that's the vibe I got from her comment, especially on the "I don't want to sing in Romani but in Macedonian" comment...

But then again, no one forced her to sign it... but yeah it does come across as she's just there to fill some sort of "gap" xshrug

They are not allowed to make changes to the song after the deadline. (18th March)

So, I admit... I was too hard on them initially.

And I have a confession to make now... this is actually better than "Imperija" (had to just make it sink in).

Top. 10 for me! xcheer

No, sorry, this song is a total mess. The structure just makes no sense. It sounds like some kind of strange remix, the parts are just randomly patched together.

And does it strike anyone else that Esma is completely out of time for almost all of the song?

I completely agree. It really shows that they put this song together in a week. The structure is indeed simply a mess.
I think Lozano's parts aren't that bad, but Esma's just doesn't fit anywhere. Such a shame!

I also like Esmas's part better. His part is just another ordinary ESC song, competently sung. But I also agree that the two don't go very well together.
