Oh ! Your library is legendary ! I love the fact that Dana International is next to Regina Spector and Dalida next to Marianne Faithful !
The important in life is to be eclectic an open-minded !
That's also my philosophy ! ;)

I think it's correct to demand the right name of the country, because there's a diplomatic process on the way and the country is called FYR Macedonia so far. Silly or not, that's not our choice, It's the right name and that's all.
But I consider silly to complain about the statue in the video...that's very ridiculous! Even the video, in my opinion, looks like a turism propaganda, but what to do? It's nothing wrong to take a chance of the coverage of Eurovision.

I couldnt agree less, but then again, I dont want to enter into politics and staff as this is CERTAINLY a forum that has NOTHING to do with politics, and has to do ONLY with our love to esc and music in general.

wait ... I don't get it ...
The statue of Alexander is in Skopje right ? And WHY do Greeks complain now? I know he is a Greek historical hero but whats wrong about the case that he is some kind of hero for the macedonian people aswell? (or do I have to say the "former yugoslavs of macedonia" .... I am a bit confused :D ) Help!

Re: FYR MACEDONIA 2013 - Vlatko Lozanoski & Esma Redžepova - Imperija

I cannot believe they actually took the video down.. I don't understand why? I was looking forward to showing my friend it today as well. I loved everything about it, so grand, epic! Albania didn't take down any of their videos last year despite an even higher percentage of down votes on them.. and look what happened to Rona on the big night. I hate all this fighting within Eurovision between countries. Glance any comments box for Eurovision entries on Youtube and you'll find political arguments going on. It's very sad and not what the contest is about.

I think "Imperija" is a great entry and nothing better happen to it. I hope to see the video back up soon. I have an absolutely unhealthy obsession with this song at the moment.. "Imperija IMPERIJAaAaAa"xheat

The video was obviously not innocent. I am very nearly ignorant of what goes on between those countries and I don't wanna know, but I understand relations are tense. And although I'm not specially perceptive about those matters, even I could see the video was provocative. Sometimes things really mean things whether you like it or not. I mean, the needle was out of the haystack and was thrust right in your face.

I wouldn't fear for Imperija though. It will come back in another context and look as harmless as I understand it to be.

For me as well it's just a tourism exhibition video, something similiar to Albania 2011 Aurela had too beautiful landscapes, places etc.

As for the song I had high expectations towards this duo and less expectations and question mark about Croatia. For me it turned out that the surprise was very pleasent - I love Mizerja, but Esma and Vlatko is a let down for me. From this duet I expected something great, outstanding even. Maybe my expectations were too big after Kaliopi, I don't know... I feel potential of Esma is not used well, they could make something really good with such artists/singers. We got cool, fun song, but sounds little cheesy to me in some parts. Many people already like this is just for "lol" than serious love for this song. Probably presentation and performance will be very good, but will it lift Imperija to final and good result? I have serious doubts. I still keep my fingers crossed though!

Re: FYR MACEDONIA 2013 - Vlatko Lozanoski & Esma Redžepova - Imperija

Once Again I think Greece should worry about other things ;)
Macedonia FTW xheya ... sorry Former Yugoslavian Republik of Macedonia .... :geek:

In Sweden we officially call Macedonia just Macedonia and it actually bugs me that EBU is calling it FYROM just because one country is insecure, just proves that EBU is a political organization.

In these days Greece and Greeks should definitely focus on other things... the Oikotimes article was just ridiculous (as most of their stuff).

Anyways, I'll leave this name dispute to those with too much time on their hand.

As for the entry... I guess Macedonia will once again be in my top. 10 like last year... ;)

No! I said it once and I will say it again. Imperija is addressed to the music, as the music being an empire of the world. The promo video is to promote the song, promote the city (obviously) and it looks grand (portrays Esma as some kind of queen or whatever ).

This is awful. I hate it when they mix so many genres and the result is a big mess. What is this song in the end? Pop? Jazz? Rock? Ethnic? 2 points just because I like Vlatko's voice. They could do a great song like this (just Esma to have a bigger part on the song):

But they came up with the most amateurish and cliche production so far this year.

Re: FYR MACEDONIA 2013 - Vlatko Lozanoski & Esma Redžepova - Imperija

And btw, it's obvious that they named the song "Imperija" and they used the statue of Alexander the Great just to provoke Greece, no matter if the song talks about another empire or whatever. I'm not a nationalist or anything, and I hate when people fight between them for such silly reasons, but every year Slavomacedonians use ESC to provoke. Every year when they announce their points they repeat the word "Macedonia" about 5 times ("This is Macedonia calling, 8 points from Macedonia to..., 10 points from Macedonia to..., and finally 12 points from Macedonia to..., Good bye from Macedonia") and remember the lyrics of "Rusinka" in 2011? "Jas Makedonec..." ("I'm Macedonian"). They are not innocent in this regard at all.

Slavomacedonians?? Really? Since when is that a term? I don't like that term and I don't think anyone who feels and identifies as Macedonian would appreciate that or associate with that term (Everyone in the world has a right to self-identification, be a part of a community, and belonging). The name is one thing (and people call it whatever they want), and that term is something else. ;)

I agree that there shouldn't be any provocations and such. :) But I think the video was used as a promo for the project Skopje 2014 and not with an intention to provoke. Personally, I would have wished the video to be shot in a big hall where Esma would be a queen. I also think "Opsesija" would have been a better name for the song, as I expected people would jump on this.
"Rusinka" got what it deserved, as it was a terrible song.

For not caring you seem to care quite a bit (as apparent in your comment).

Sweden (and many other countries) officially recognize Macedonia simply as Macedonia, and if you get "provoked" by them using the name themselves (which is quite logical that they would)... are you "provoked" aswell by the fact that many other countries officially use it aswell? I'm just curious...

To me this whole issue is just... well... in fact such a "non-issue"... Thing is there is no independent "South Macedonia" so logically the only independent state with the name would carry it... the day the Greek part becomes independent, the discussion would make more sense... but now it's not so it's a dispute that is just overreacted imo.

Personally, I couldn't care less because I have no connection to neither Greece or Macedonia, but because of that I'll simply call it Macedonia (afterall that's what Sweden officially calls it so I guess I'll just stick to what I'm used to).

what is it about? It's just about a name right? Or is there more behind it? I mean We also have Azerbaijan in Iran, no one cares that there is another Azerbaijan outsie Iran.

About the entry....it sucks. And like every Macedonian unnecessary electric guitar...

I don't use the terms Skopians or Fyromians as many others use because I don't agree with any of them (Skopje is just a city, not a nation, and FYROM are initials) I use this term which is acceptable for me, and contains the "Macedonian" inside. I don't see anything wrong with it. And I don't see anything wrong if someone wants to call himself Macedonian, no matter if I disagree with it. As you said, everyone in the world has a right to self-identification xshrug

3 billion of them don't know what Macedonia is,
for 3,988,345,906 people Macedonia is called "Macedonia".
and 11,654,094 people live in Greece and Cyprus combined

All of those terms are derogatory. ;) I hate any kind of terms that are supposed to describe anyone, which the others don't like (and that applies to all nations regardless!). I mean how would you call let's say a Macedonian who has Roma roots or Vlachian roots or Albanian roots? Slavomacedonian can't apply to that and that word is only used by 1-2 countries. ;)
Yeah, everyone has that right. Just like you have that right, me, everyone on the forum, Valentina from San Marino, the Queen, etc.

The name is another thing and the issue with it is stupid. So much money have been spent from all these countries on that, while so many hungry mouths could have been fed with those money. I never understood that name issue and I never will. To me it is the same as arguing why your mother bought a silver car, instead of a black one.

Honestly, only the biggest fools would see this as a political provocation.

What are they supposed to do, put black squares over existing statues in their national capital? Give me a friggen break.
