FSC Norway - June 2012 - Donkeyboy - Pull Of The Eye

etDkmSR.jpg

Representing Norway in June 2012, and for the 2nd time in the FSC, is the Norwegian Synth-Pop band Donkeyboy. Here is some more information about them.

Donkeyboy is a Synth-Pop band from Drammen, Norway, formed in 2005. The band consists of Cato Sundberg (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kent Sundberg (synth, backing vocals), Peter Michelsen (guitar, backing vocals), Thomas Drabløs (drums), and Alexander Garborg Ågedal (bass guitar).

Donkeyboy were, or so it is said, signed to Warner Music after an employee came across their music on MySpace. Their debut-single "Ambitions" was released on 26th March 2009 and became a big Norwegian radio- and chart-hit. "Ambitions", which featured guest vocals by the Norwegian singer Linnea Dale, remained at the number one spot for 12 consecutive weeks, before being replaced by the band's second single "Sometimes" on 22nd September. This was the first time ever for a Norwegian artist/band to occupy the top two spots on the Norwegian singles chart. “Ambitions” was also the song that represented Norway in FSC August 2009.

Donkeyboy's debut-album “Caught in a Life” was released on 19th October 2009 to very good reviews. It was produced by Simen M Eriksrud and Espen Berg at Livingroom Studios in Oslo, Norway. The album quickly sold to Platinum and Donkeyboy went on to win several awards - among them ‘hit’ of the year - at the Norwegian Spellemannspris 2009 (Norwegian Grammys).

Pull Of The Eye (February 2012)

Donkeyboy, moreover, supported fellow Norwegians a-ha in the UK and Oslo legs of their ‘Foot of the Mountain’ tour in November 2009.

In 2011 Donkeyboy won a ‘European Border Breakers Award’ for their international success. Later in the same year, in November 2011, they released the 1st single “City Boy” from their forthcoming new album. It was a groovy Synth-Pop/Electro-Pop song - in a kind of ‘Pet Shop Boys style’ - which became very popular on the radio and on the dancefloors.

In February 2012 a 2nd single from the coming album, a song called “Pull Of The Eye”, was released. It was another catchy Synth-Pop number which quickly became very popular among fans and on national radio. “Pull Of The Eye” is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC June 2012.

Donkeyboy's second album ”Silver Moon” was subsequently released in March 2012 to fairly good reviews. It included their two singles as well as ten other groovy Synth-Pop/Electro-Pop/Pop songs. On some songs they had (female) guest-vocalists, as has been their tradition.

Their sound has perhaps evolved somewhat since the beginning (from pop/rock to more Synth-based music), but fans and (most) critics recognize the band’s style and musical expression and appear to appreciate it. The band have promoted their new album around Norway in the past few months and will continue to hold concerts and various live-events this summer. We will without doubt hear more from this talented Norwegian band in the coming years.

Our entry for FSC June, “Pull Of The Eye”, is alas a catchy, groovy Synth-Pop song perfect for the summer month. Guest-vocalist on the song is the Norwegian singer Vivian Sørmeland of Norwegian pop-IDOL fame (came 3rd in the 2006 contest). We are happy to enter Donkeyboy for the 2nd time in the FSC for Norway.

Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for June! :)

Donkeyboy - Pull Of The Eye

If somebody called your name
If somebody took the blame
Would you be just the same?
Would you do it again?

Doctor feel good, your desire
Makes me feel good, takes me higher
Doctor feel good, you're a liar
In this mad world, you're the fire

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
You can be someone

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
Finally you can be someone

So, you make it feel so good
Even if you pretend
Make me believe I should
Make me do it again

Doctor feel good, your desire
Makes me feel good, takes me higher
Doctor feel good, you're a liar
In this mad world, you're the fire

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
You can be someone

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
Finally you can be someone

If somebody called your name
Would you be just the same?
Make me believe I should
Make me do it again

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
You can be someone

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
Finally you can be someone

Doctor feel good, your desire
Makes me feel good, takes me higher
Doctor feel good, you're a liar
In this mad world, you're the fire

Doctor feel good, your desire
Makes me feel good, takes me higher
Doctor feel good, you're a liar
In this mad world, you're the fire

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
You can be someone

Pull of the eye
Be anyone, could be anyone
Finally you can be someone

FSC Norway - July 2012 - Wig Wam - Wall Street

TctjfYO.jpg

Representing Norway in July 2012, and for the 2nd time in the FSC, is the Norwegian Glam Rock band Wig Wam. Here is some more information about them.

Wig Wam consists of Åge Sten Nilsen (“Glam”) on vocals, Trond Holter (“Teeny”) on guitars, Bernt Jansen (“Flash”) on bass and Øystein Andersen (“Sporty”) on drums.

The band was founded in 2001 in the town of Halden in Østfold county in south-eastern Norway. Before their establishment the band members were already active in the music business, playing in bands like Dream Police, Sha-Boom and others, or as solo artists. Wig Wam worked hard to get to the top of the national charts, starting their career with numerous live performances across the country, quickly becoming one of Norway's most popular live bands. Their fan base is known as Wig Wamaniacs.

Their debut-album came in 2004, but they achieved true national success and international attention after they won the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix in 2005 with their popular song ”In My Dreams”. The song subsequently came a very good 9th in the Eurovision Song Contest Final in Kiev, Ukraine - and was included on the album ”Hard to Be a Rock 'n' Roller.. in Kiev!” released the same year.

”Hard to Be a Rock 'n' Roller.. in Kiev!” (2005)
”Wig Wamania” (2006)
”Live in Tokyo” (2007)
”Non Stop Rock'n'Roll” (2010)
“Wall Street” (May 2012)

In 2006 they released the album ”Wig Wamania” which included a very popular single and radio-hit called ”Gonna Get You Someday”. This was followed by a live-album ”Live in Tokyo” in 2007. Their next album came in January 2010. It was called ”Non Stop Rock 'n' Roll”. The album, a chart- and sales-success, had many catchy songs in their typical Glam Rock style and also included their 1st radio-single from the album, a popular song called ”Do Ya Wanna Taste It”, which was the song that represented Norway in FSC March 2010.

In February 2012 a new, popular single called “Wall Street” was released by Wig Wam. It was the 1st single from their forthcoming 2012 album by the same name. “Wall Street” is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC July 2012.

The new CD-album, also named “Wall Street”, was subsequently released in May 2012 to (mostly) good reviews in the national and international press. The band has a fairly wide fanbase both nationally and abroad and the new album has been warmly welcomed by their many fans. Wig Wam will not do extensive promotion of the new album this summer, but are planning a tour in 2013 according to their website. We will without doubt hear more from these talented and enthusiastic Norwegian Glam Rock’ers in the years to come.

Our entry for FSC July, “Wall Street”, with music and text by Trond “Teeny” Holter, is another catchy and rockin’ Glam Rock-song with inspiration from the rock of the 1980s, performed with energy and enthusiasm by the Norwegian Glam Rockers. We are happy to enter Wig Wam for the 2nd time in the FSC for Norway.

Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for July! :)

Wig Wam - Wall Street

Buy me a suit, with the cash in hand
Trade my guitar for a company brand
Don’t need much, before a man on my fields
Just need a place up in Beverly Hills

I don’t care about the money
One taste of a life so sweet
I’ll be swell about it, honey
What I need is to have a little luck
On Wall Street

The grass is always greener on the other side
Greed turns me into Dr. Jekyll and Hyde
The well I’ll surely dry
As I straighten up my tie

I don’t care about the money
One taste of a life so sweet
I’ll be swell about it, honey
What I need is to have a little luck
On Wall Street

I don’t care about the money
Just enough to keep me on my feet
I’ll be swell about it, honey
What I need is to have a little luck
On Wall Street

Must be neat
To be a millionaire
But I don’t mind
Just keep your hands off my share

I don’t care about the money
One taste of a life so sweet
I’ll be swell about it, honey
What I need is to have a little luck
On Wall Street

I don’t care about the money
Just enough to keep me on my feet
I’ll be swell about it, honey
What I need is to have a little luck
On Wall Street

Have a little luck
On Wall Street

Have a little luck

Wall Street

FSC Norway - August 2012 - Bertine Zetlitz - Pretend To Dance

mG1KiRa.png

Representing Norway in August 2012 is the talented Norwegian Electro-Pop artist Bertine Zetlitz, one of Norway’s most dominant Electro-Pop artists of the last decade. Here is some more information about her.

Bertine Axeliane Robberstad Zetlitz (born in 1975) - artist name Bertine Zetlitz - is a well known Norwegian Electro-Pop artist. She began her musical journey at a young age, penning her first numbers aged just 12. After gaining a background in classical music, Bertine Zetlitz began to experiment. Her debut album “Morbid Latenight Show” was released in 1998 and spawned several successful singles. It was followed by the Tore Johansson produced “Beautiful So Far” in 2000. Her third album, “Sweet Injections”, was released in 2003, helmed by electronic experts Howie B, Magnus Fiennes and Richard X (Sugababes, Rachel Stevens). The lead single “Girl Like You” signalled a change of direction for the singer and by this stage her music was based in more ‘stylyzed’ (commercial) Electro-Pop and Electronica.

Her fourth album “Rollerskating” was released in late 2004. EMI at the time described the release as a ‘fascinating and unique blend of pulsing Electro, classic Disco nouveaux, twisted Pop melodies and good old fashioned catchy choruses. It's Bertine as you know and love her, but with a new even more addictive sting in her tail.’ The lead single “Fake Your Beauty” was a radio hit and reached nr 1 in the Norwegian charts. Its follow-up “Ah-Ah” was remixed on release and was a sizeable hit. Bertine Zetlitz then released her fifth album “My Italian Greyhound” in September 2006. She described the album as ’like its namesake: elegant, humorous, fit and well scented - with a charming hint of neurosis’.

Bertine Zetlitz gave birth to her first child in 2007 and temporarily retired from show-business to become a full-time mother. Later that year she released the Greatest Hits album “In My Mind 1997–2007 : the Best of Bertine Zetlitz”, which featured two new songs, one of which was the popular single “Ashamed”.

Bertine Zetlitz: Discography

Morbid Latenight Show (1998)
Beautiful So Far (2000)
Sweet Injections (2003)
Rollerskating (2004)
My Italian Greyhound (2006)
In My Mind 1997–2007 : the Best of Bertine Zetlitz (2007)
Electric Feet (2012)

In 2011 she began to plan for her return to the music-business and, beside some national tv-performances, she started work on songs for her forthcoming new album “Electric Feet”, her sixth studio album. The album was finally released in March 2012. It was preceeded in early 2012 by the single “Electric Feet” which featured the singer Samsaya on co-vocals. The album received fair critical reviews in the press and it included 11 songs in the Electro-Pop genre, among them the melodious song “Pretend To Dance” which is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC August 2012.

Bertine Zetlitz is one of the dominant figures in Norwegian Electro-Pop. She has received the Spellemannspris (Norwegian Grammy) four times. She has had many radio hits over the years including popular songs such as “Apples and Diamonds”, “Girl Like You”, “Twisted Little Star” and “Ashamed” to name a few. She has her own musical style - a catchy but also slightly ‘quirky’ and distinct type of Electro-Pop/Electronica sung in her own way - and she has gotten widespread attention from both the public, critics, DJs and her many fans in Norway and abroad. This is a talented artist that we will without doubt hear more from in the years to come.

Our entry for FSC August, “Pretend To Dance”, with music and production by Electro-Pop producer Fred Ball, is alas a catchy and melodious Electro-Pop song performed with style and flair by Bertine Zetlitz. We are happy to enter Bertine Zetlitz in the FSC for Norway.

Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for August! :)

Bertine Zetlitz - Pretend To Dance

Tie your laces, girl
It is easy, put your shoes on
And enjoy the world

You were starry-eyed
And you’re telling me
The DJ soundin’ out of sight

But I’m trying hard
To keep it real
I don’t know exactly
What to feel

Tell me boy, am I wasting my time
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance
Am I losing my mind
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s like a kick-kick-kick when it’s hittin’ home
It’s like a ring-ring-ring on a telephone
It’s like a beat-beat-beat on a meanest drum
It’s like a give-give-give when you’re saving home

Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s an easy ride
Take my hand and come and join me
On the other side

Don’t know what to do
‘Cause the reason I am here
Is to get close to you

Tell me boy, am I wasting my time
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance
Am I losing my mind
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s like a kick-kick-kick when it’s hittin’ home
It’s like a ring-ring-ring on a telephone
It’s like a beat-beat-beat on a meanest drum
It’s like a give-give-give when you’re saving home

At night I am a tiger
They will feed when it gets dark, you know
At night I am a sniper
I will aim at every spark, you see

At night I am a razor-blade
I’ll cut your heart in two
Oh, I don’t care about the tigers
All I care about is you

Tell me boy, am I wasting my time
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance
Am I losing my mind
Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s like a kick-kick-kick when it’s hittin’ home
It’s like a ring-ring-ring on a telephone
It’s like a beat-beat-beat on a meanest drum
It’s like a give-give-give when you’re saving home

Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s like a ring-ring-ring on a telephone
It’s like a kick-kick-kick when it’s hittin’ home

Let’s pretend we’re here to dance

It’s like a beat-beat-beat on a meanest drum
It’s like a give-give-give when you’re saving home

Let’s pretend we’re here to dance
