Who's odds does everyone think will drop/raise significantly after the first semi?

I remember Cyprus got to 5/1 and one of the favourites last year just before the semi, and then dropped significantly after the live semi final.

and yet televoters voted for Russia.
Do you think that it was political as well? - Like European viewers supported Putin and Russia´s invasion of Ukraine?

Or did they just like the song maybe?
They liked the projections, not the song.

Personally, I think that Austria (Pia seems to be vocally alright right now and the performance is quite energetic) and Iceland (perfectly staged, brilliant use of the lights of the kinetic sun, very intimate setting) will rise since both countries will probably qualify.
I expect the Netherlands to drop - they will qualify, for sure but their performance is a snoozefest (unfortunately).

I´m sorry but you´ve brought it up (also 2016). I just strongly disagree with you.

Let us just enjoy the contest (we all need this - enough of bad news) and may the best song win (which clearly is very subjective).
2016 has shown that a lot of people don't vote politically, but that was also a matter of people having a very short attention span and Russia was not as despised back then as it is now. Support for Ukraine is huge now and the war is still current, so politics will have more of an impact on the result than in 2016.

If Ukraine wins, it will be because of extra support due to the war, of course. There will surely be many sympathy votes from the public and the Ukrainian refugees will vote for their home country in large numbers as well. The juries will rank the song higher than they would do usually. I especially expect that from the countries closest to Ukraine, including Poland and the Baltic countries. Jury members that don't vote for Ukraine could be seen as pro-Russian, so I think Ukraine will get a big boost in the jury vote as well. I think Ukraine winning the public vote and getting a result like Israel and Italy in the jury vote seems likely. I think Ukraine might be ignored by the juries of pro-Russian countries, like Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Serbia, but in most other countries I expect at least some points for Ukraine.

I am excited about today - especially about the scandals afterwards:

What??? Why did act A survive the semi, why not B?

Are you crazeeeee? Act C should have qualified!

What??? NOOO!

Ahhh! I am living for the drama!

If Act C doesn't qualify, i'm rioting.

Act A is just a snoozefest. Pure jury fodder... and I heard they've been bribing juries.

I could be wrong but ... I`m pretty sure most Ukrainian refugees don`t give a damn about Eurovision right now. xshrug
I was going to write exactly this.
Pretty sure they couldn't care less about Eurovision right now or don't even remember it.

They're refugees. Went through hell and probably still are in hell. It's not like we're talking about people who passed the border to vote for a song contest. Sometimes people really need to get out of the bubble...

Precisely. And even those who do are very likely to have other priorities to pay for (cough, like... living), rather than ESC votes (could vary of course, but at least here in :cz:, voting is rather costly).

I can understand people pointing out at increased likelihood of sympathy votes, however the "inflated diaspora" narrative is rather ridiculous.

We are here for it. I'm sure that this edition started with drama and will finish with tragedy because the act A should have done better than act B 🤣🤣🤣

Fake qualifiers

Yeah :ua: not qualifying would be the biggest wtf of all. But these fake qualifiers look fairly close to what I'd imagine - I'd be inclined to switch out :dk: and :ch: for :ua: and :al: / :md: but we shall see (also, I'm fully aware these mean nothing and are purely for production run-through purposes ;) )

If they managed to gather some sympathy votes in 2016 without refugees all over Europe they will too this year, not counting the refugees. I don’t think those are in the mood to vote. I think it’s rather juries and televoters of other countries who are sending "pity votes".

And sue me, though I don’t like the Ukrainian song that much, I am perfectly fine with seeing them winning.
It would be a huge friendly non-physical "weapon" to show that message of support! This way we can reach millions of households.

With that being said, I’ve been still crossing my fingers for my favourites to win too!
And I wish ALL participants good luck!

They surely have other priorities, but that doesn't mean that they won't be voting for Ukraine or do you think the big diaspora vote Eurovision is notorious for is based on immigrants having a disproportionately big interest in the contest?

Remains to be seen, I suppose. I just can`t see it being as much of a factor in this particular case.

Again... Refugees are not immigrants.
Anyway, back on topic. Have a great show tonight everyone!

I don't see it as the biggest factor either, but it will lead to some extra votes, that's all. If you can send a message of support for your home country for a few cents, you might very well do so and this contest is a way to show such support. Some people will do so and there are millions of refugees, so it's not like everyone needs to vote for this to have an impact.
