Croatia is good I guess, I just don't like these kind of performances in general they seem all over the place.

Denmark was great and energetic enough and they did they best they could to cover up the sun. It does look kinda ugly but everyone will have gotten used into it by that point.

Austria has a good staging but vocally it is a mess. Personally I think the problem is that they have three voices that sing at different times and often the backing vocalist sings louder than Pia. I get that they probably want to cover up her bad moments but the parts that I could hear her voice, she was fine. Honestly two backing vocalists and both of them singing that loud seems like an overreaction to the bad comments from the delegation's side.

Greece was fine but I'm not that impressed personally, though it seems that whole concept of the performance is mostly based on the start and the end of the performance, so we will see.

Looking good. The camera shots gotta be a little "tighter" though. Vocals and harmonies on point as always so yea, Top 3 with the juries is possible imho. Remains to be seen if the public falls in love with the song.
Verdict: Qualifier. 3rd-8th.

The laser staging was an idea of the show she was performing in, not of the creative team that AVROTROS put together for Eurovision.

is somewhat messy imo, I think it grabs the vibe of the song quite well but something's off for me. But the vocals are great

My general thoughts after day 5 of rehearsals:

• Based on the 40 sec clips, none of them actually excite me that much.
• Quite a few of them are ruined by the black sun (ie. Albania, Latvia, Ukraine, Moldova, Croatia, Greece & Portugal - to a certain extent) and some have to resort to close-up to mask the black sun (ie. Lithuania, Slovenia).
• These ones are great in incorporating the black sun or are not impacted by the black sun::
  • Denmark because they are basically using plain LED backdrop, so the black sun sort of becomes part of the backdrop.
  • Switzerland as it is completely pitch black, so you can't see it.
  • Austria because they did not use any LED backdrop, it's basically a light show staging.
  • Netherlands, same as Austria, did not use any LED backdrop except the small part in the black sun.
  • Bulgaria used a dark-colour LED back drop and at time used one-colour LED backdrop to match with the lights so the black sun is perfectly blended in.
• Camera angles and lightings are obviously lacking in a number of them (ie. Albania, Croatia) and they need to stop with the pan-out shots for solo artists (ie. Netherlands, Greece) as they are swallowing them up.
• LOL @ Austria basically doing a Greece 2017 where the backing vocalists are doing the heavy lifting in the chorus. Call it when I first read that they are having backing vocalists.
• Still not too sure about Greece's staging, think we need to see the full performance to see how the concept is being executed. Because now, it's just looking like a messy stage with lots of broken/melted chairs.
• Portugal's camera shots don't look too good in the clip. Even though it's refreshing they are on the B-stage, but when the camera pans to the main stage, the big black sun is there. Seems like they have managed to fix the LED backdrop so the words are not blocked?

I know and the worst for me is that they manage not to sing at the same time too somehow. They should have just used pre recorded vocals and let her sing the song, it wouldn't sound so messy imo.

There's a backing singer missing, but they still left room for her to join in later, should all go well. It's a weird circle xD

Funny how my perception of the Eurovision stage and of our song Halo is perfectly aligned.

First, they got me extremely excited and hyped up and now I think these are the worst ever.

Are you a light or sound or filming technician or have you studied those kind of stuff because you are detailing all the rehearsals describing all the aspects lacking for each performance?

Nope, my area of expertise is not in those that you have mentioned. Just giving what my 2 cents worth like every other ESC fan based on what I see and many years of viewing experience of the contests.

I'm hearing different things. Wiwi stated that all of them were in the rehearsal, but one of them (Milhanas) wore a mask. I guess we just have to wait and hope no one else gets it.

I was a little disappointed after seeing the clip, but wiwibloggs makes me hopeful.

Portugal´s staging is very intimate - The Dutch performances tries to achieve the same vibes but based on that 2nd rehearsal clip I think that they weren´t able to create the same atmosphere. One can see that they are going for a very dark performance whilst coming up with a "sunrise" at the end of the performance but due to the dead/black sun, it fails to evoke any emotions, imo.
Vocally, she was alright - but I have to admit that I´m quite disappointed by the Dutch staging.

Austria was bad as well - honestly, it doesn´t deserve to perform better than Gromee from Poland (even though I like the idea with that "ring" on stage).

I looked to all the rehearsal clips, and finally.... For majority of the performances, the black sun is not a problem. But for a few contestants, it is still. Anyway, i don't think people watching will notice or understand that something was wrong.

Albania : Looks ok, but she missed her high note, right ?
Latvia : Ok, for them, the visual is now strangely dark on the clip -due of the sun- not what i expected for them, i don't like.
Lituania : Perfect as it is now ! I'm confident, i think she will go through !
Switzerland : Looks interesting, but still boring....
Slovenia : They are trying to hide the black sun ?
Ukraine : Works very well.... Winners of sf1, at least for public, with no doubt.
Bulgaria : Impressive staging. But i think they are dead anyway.
Netherlands : She doesn't sound good on this clip, uh ?
Moldova : I really, really don't like the visual, horribly messy, I have hope that finally they could fail.
Portugal : Looks simple but nice, ok for this song.
Croatia : Hum, it's ok i think ?
Denmark : Like in the NF, as expected
Austria : Impressive staging, but it doesn't sound good. I think it's gonna be borderline.
Greece : I didn't understood what is so impressive, it's just a good staging...?


So, Thinking that Norway and armenia will qualify :

Finalist 100% : Ukraine, Greece, Norway
Probably in Final : Lithuania (YES !) Netherlands, Moldova, Armenia
Cross your fingers : Albania, Latvia, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria
I think you have no chance : Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark

These numbers give the impression that they just asked 4 press members or something. Really well-rounded numbers.

They asked 192 people apparently. The numbers don't quite add up to 100% though because they've rounded them (and then weirdly left on the rounded hundredth).

Out of 192 press members, here's the number that put that country in their top 3 - note that one of these has to be out by one vote but its not actually possible to tell which because of the rounding issue...
