We let them tell us what to do
Why why why
We live to die for worthy things
Oh ya ya ya

We promised we would never lose our pride
Your word's worth nothing if you lie
We're standing tall and looking up, our Father would be proud
And I'm happy to be working my own ground

We'll be the last ones breathing here

Hey, sing your heart out boy
For all the people great and small
Oh, when all else is lost
The future still remains our own

We're taught that we were born to lose
But why why why
Don't waste your breath, it's time to choose
Oh ya ya ya

We promised we would never lose our pride
Your word's worth nothing if you lie
We're standing tall and looking up, our Father would be proud
And I'm happy to be working my own ground

I said
Hey, sing your heart out boy
For all the people great and small
Oh, when all else is lost
The future still remains our own

I hope

We let them tell us what to do
Why why why
We live to die for worthy things
Oh ya ya ya

No matter what they try, tearing up our lives
I know we will always rise

I said
Hey, sing your heart out boy
For all the people great and small
Oh, when all else is lost
The future still remains our own

I hope

The future still remains our own

I hope

I know this is nothing revolutionary but this song just makes me happy and I listened to it today I gess six or seven times in a row. And I have to admit that I would really kill for such a deep voice. Why does my voice sound so strange?? xgaah

Anyway, I give :ee: my second :12: of this season, absolutely love it!! xmusic

Stefan is adorable and his performance absolutely elevates what is already a good, catchy, safe song that deserves a solid score in final. :8: points Estonia!!!

That was my number 1 in 2014 and beside that I cannot really remember similar songs doing good at ESC. Also, the Dutch staging in 2014 was absolutely stunning, no tacky elements, it was a class act.
Totally agree. I like their version of country better than what Stefan is doing this year.
(My favorite that year was France and it came last.)

Nothing revolutionary, reminds me of Victor Crone, not my cup of tea, but not bad. Won't get too excited for it though
I find the chorus in particular much more pleasant and exciting to listen to!

I don't see a point in comparing these two besides both being essentially pop songs performed by good looking men.

Usually American sounds dont get a good result at ESC but who knows? Personally I dont like the song and I am happy I dont understand the lyrics because it has tacky vibes.

Chances are high Estonia follows the "top 10 in every third contest" rule ;)

I think this will follow in Victor Crones steps, will qualify no doubt and get a 15-20 placing.

The two-cowboy standoff is very literal and silly if you ask me, at least if you go down that road go the the full way like Denmark 2018. But dont just have 2 cowboys stand there like its the most serious thing in the world lol. Have them dance a wild west dance at the end or something, I dont know, the I hope I hope parts need some movement, quite static and boring now
( starring at Stefan's beautiful thighs is not going to keep me entertained forever, although it works for now xangel )

I was really astonished long before that this was such a fan favorite. While watching Stefan performing, I thought it was really cringey. Western style is not always bad, but I find nothing special about his song or performance. It is okay, that's why I gave 6 pts, but it would never make it on my playlist.

I never cared for Stefan's songs in the previous years but damn his song is really catchy this time around. I'm glad this is the year he's won. I think I even like the staging.

In our regional group of Eurovision fans (we are 20-30 people who usually meet on a monthy basis), "Hope" gets a very positive response. To be fair, most of them are a bit older than I am but it really seems to be a song which is universally liked - quite surprised that such types of songs can still connect to listeners in 2022 but I honestly believe that Estonia will perform very well in May.

If majority of them are Germans, then not surprise at all, country is very popular by Germans and I expect some televoting points for Estonia from Germany..

I don´t think this has much to do with age, I´m a bit younger than you and I love it as well. xmusic;)

I think age may be a factor here - like other members have also already pointed out - this entry has a "strong mum vibe" written all over it. - Also, it´s a genre which was highly popular in 2012-2015. - Thus, I question IF younger people (teens, for example) can relate to the song/sound nowadays.

Of course, taste in music is subjective but I just think that there´s some sort of "tendency" towards a certain style/artist, e.g. TIX has been quite popular in this group as well - same applies to Michael Szpak´s "Color Of Your Life" whereas Hatari, Go_A and also the dubstep entries from :am: 2014 and :me: 2013 haven´t been that well-received. :pl: 2014 didn´t even qualify in our "previews" voting in 2014.... This doesn´t mean that many middle-aged/older viewers can´t enjoy listening to "My Slowanie". This doesn´t mean that young viewers can´t enjoy TIX or Stefan.

Personally, I think that "Hope" has a universal appeal - which I have also said in my initial post - unlike "That´s Rich" for example which seems to be more tailored for a younger target audience.
In the last years, the Eurovision viewership has become younger (in general) and therefore, I didn´t want to generalise it that "Hope" might perform well in May based on the comments in our group.. We (the group I´m talking about) are still somehow the "core viewership" but more like the "upper half".

Well, I don´t really think you can generalize just based on the age which kind of music someone likes. My mum for example turns sixty next year and many people would think based on her look that she´s a huge fan of Schlager, which is absolutely not the case. xshrug

I still slightly disagree with you - I´ve attended a concerts by Helene Fischer, Shawn Mendes and the crowd was entirely different (age wise). Same could have been seen at a concerts of Miley Cyrus/Selena Gomez compared to Adele, for example. (Of course, this could have been just because of these individual artists but that´s how I perceived the crowds to be).
We have radio stations dedicated to "Adult Contemporary", the votes in Melodifestivalen are not entirely or shockingply different but the individual age groups sometimes have different favourites and it´s showing from time to time - Of course, we can´t generalise it by saying "you are older - you will like XY", for sure - individually, it is a completely different story... we have some younger people listening to Schlager as well (not so much teens, though) - but there are certain songs/genres which happen to be more well-received among certain age groups.

This is also a very interesting poll/survey conducted by "Deutscher Musikrat". It´s a pdf-document which shows which "genres" happens to be more popular in certain age groups, respectively.

I never denied that some music genres are more popular among certain age groups, I just wanted to say that for example 60+ people aren´t a monolithic bloc who all like the same stuff. xshrug
