Funny though how you are yet to come up with one single interesting comment or at least a somehow positive comment about ESC, since you're American. Why do you even bother?

Because I love most the songs and that's what ESC is about (or should be). Hell I even love the song that's been preordained win and complained early on in the season because I didn't think Denmark ever got the respect I thought they deserved, check the thread. I have no problem with it winning and satisfied it will, I just hate the way it will happen.

I just hate the way their running it, I believe their moving in the wrong direction, and frankly I think your country is doing a shitty job hosting it so far. xshrug I though Oslo and Berlin were intimate yet still grand and thought the scale and presentation in Moscow and Baku pretty impressive.

I'm not alone in some of the views and complaints others clearly have. I even agree with your countryman A-lister on a lot except unlike him I actually do like most of the cheesy corny songs like "What If" and "Gravity"

*Dusseldorf

I didn't mind Baku 2012 that much, but the problem was that, in a nutshell it was Dusseldorf 2011 repackaged with AzerbaijanTourism ads. Hosts were samey, style samey, and envelopes announcements, voting and music the same. I think Malmo has done a very decent job so far - although they have the annual Melodifestivalen to help them out. ;)

Haha there are very few things me and A-lister agree on matters. It would perhaps be about music. You are of course entitled to prefer other host countries and other years, but your consistent bashing of everything Swedish is a little tiring and not so little suspicious. To me it clearly smells politics. I'm not expecting praise and cheering, but at least a fair opinion would be nice.

I think that the actual songs give a much better explanation to what happened than your conspiracy theories.

Couldn’t it just be that the Nordic countries sent decent songs this year, and the Balkans didn’t? It is rare that all of the Nordic countries send good stuff (Norway came last in the final and Finland didn’t even qualify in 2012), but they actually did this year. Obviously.
And it is rare that all of the Balkan countries are sending so much crap. Serbia last year (which came 3rd in the final!) was great, but this year’s song totally gave me a headache.

And btw – only two nordic countries were allowed to vote in the first semi, and three Nordic countries in the second semi. To get high scores, you need votes from a lot more countries! And unlike the Eastern and Balkan countries, the Nordic countries don’t have a large number of support from emigrants...

I usually like Israels (Ke’ilu Kan is my all time ESC-favorite!) and many of the central and south eastern countries songs a lot, but I think that they were really weak this year. I’m voting for Norway, France, Irland and Hungary.

Can't really say I'm unhappy for the Balkans failing. They have been freeriding ESC for far too long already and now it's time to stand in line as everybody else. Their contributions have been bland and often somewhat inturned lately, Slovenian Maja Keuc excluded. Perhaps EBU finally countered the voting imperfections finally?

In Italy we have a beautiful expression called "fare il biscotto" which means
The term refers to the sort of tacit agreement between two teams that creates benefits both to the detriment of a third team. So "make the biscuit" means combining an event between two football teams, who derive mutual benefit, at the expense of another team.
!!!So let's try to figure out which countries will "make the biscuit"

San Marino was dropped out of the Contest early to avoid the risk of winning which would have cost an enormous amount of money for the small Italian state. The Jury's were paid an unclear amount of money to keep the score for San Marino low. The reason why they didn't do this in the final instead was because they would've needed to pay and keep track of more countries, which means: More expensive and bigger risk of detection.

Happy Friday, guys...

Are you posting this as a joke or as a fact? Because there was something going around last year that the Italian government did the same thing as this.

One example was switching the the drawing order between Estonia and Denmark, co-incidently Denmark, Finland and Norway all had breaks after their performances... etc. I'm sure a lot will be discussed over the upcoming weeks.
Pretty sure having a break after your performance isn't actually an advantage.

Actually, the split is 3-3. Sweden voted in the first semi-final.

Am I the only one who likes the new selection of running order? I think that most songs/countries benefit from a good mix of genres. If 5 ballads or 5 rock songs follow eachother, the last one is probably considered dull regardless of quality. But if a ballad is squeezed in between a rock song and a pop song, it will probably be met with more interest.

No, you're far from alone.

Then make a draw separating songs according to genres. Why the ballad from Moldova is #03 while the ballads from Russia and Netherlands are #10 and #13?? And why the ballad from the UK is #15 and the one from Georgia is #25???
There's no logical criteria on this. Just Bjorkman cooking the running order as he wishes, the same he does every year in MF. The different is this contest is not his, or at least shouldn't!

Martin Kagemark is back vocal of Georgia.
Martin Kagemark is also husband of Christer Björkman.
Christer Björkman is the man who decided the running order of the countries.
And Georgia is in n.25.

That's a pretty lame and cheap conspiracy I must say.

It all depends on whether or not you count Estonia is a part of the Nordic Countries for purposes of Eurovision voting patterns. Some do, some don't.

Eurovision contesting countries are divided into voting puts were the 6 countries who normally gives each other votes are grouped.
To avoid that all 6 countries participate in the same semifinal there are usually by draw split by 3 in 1st semi and 3 in 2nd semi.

The eurovision put 2 consist of:
Norway
Sweden
Finland
Denmark
Estonia
Iceland

Put no. 2 is called the nordic put because .... well you know.

Exactly - that's what I stated a while ago... we can have two/three separate pots where songs are sorted according to their genre... ballad/uptempo/midtempo and then songs are drawn from the pots accordingly. Hopefully, if this 'fixed' running order system is to be adopted next year, they should do it this way as it's more transparent!

You think people like Bjorkman are above giving the act their husband is involved in a favourable placing?

No, but I doubt his husband would expect him to risk his profession for some cheap favours. Surely you realise that. :)
