The moment the old Western Eurovision powerhouses are finally treated fairly again, all the defenders of corruption, with whom I've had many an argument with over the years, get upset. All I can say is taste your own medicine... that's how it felt getting 25th, 24th, 22nd over and over again! Unfortunately there's still two blocs left in full force, they will probably still be a problem on Saturday unfortunately.

Fairly? You mean getting a biased advantage but still send crappy songs... ? xshrug

I can't get your attitude, no one should get away with sending crap... regardless of country.

Really the quality of the Western countries hasn't really improved that much their still the same. When all is said and done maybe only Germany has improved its quality. France has always sent quality but they march to the beat of their own drummer and Italy has just returned so maybe so perhaps their inclusion makes it feel like more Western countries are better. The UK, Ireland, Belgium and Netherlands are still patchy as hell, Spain is still bland and uninteresting for the most part and the others remain forgettable. Maybe the only Western country that has really benefitted is Malta but I give them more credit for sending the right acts then a jury.

The jury is propping them and their higher results only make it look like their sending better material but they really aren't.

To misuse a famous quote, From Szczecin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an Iron Curtain of nonqualification has descended across Europe. Within that line lies all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Vienna, Berne, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Podgorica, Tirane, Skopje, Nicosia, and Sofia.

In seriousness, looking at a map of the qualified countries, there's a river of red in Central Europe dividing the continent roughly back into pre-1995 EU, and the former USSR. How can you explain that all of that is just natural voting and jury patterns. Unless somehow all of the residents of the Central European countries magically became purely objective voters and outright rejected the notion of voting for their neighbours, something that has dogged the contest since 1956, meanwhile most of the former USSR countries and the Nordic countries didn't. Especially in this year which is so structured already by the likes of Bjorkman.

Basically I simply can't accept that the contest isn't rigged when all of the Nordics and all of the former USSR (barring Latvia but everyone hates that so it doesn't count) got through to the final, and none of the Balkans, nor the massive fan favourite San Marino got through. There is no way that an entire voting bloc doesn't qualify while the entirety of two voting blocs qualify without a bother without some kind of meddling. Bjorkman and Co. seem hellbent on creating the perfect show out of the Eurovision and don't seem to mind throwing away the Contest aspect of it. I mean I know they said they wanted to take the ESC back to older times, but I didn't know they meant 1956 with rigging and all that.

We got 24th last year, if you'd care to explain how that is exactly a biased advantage? It's just a more levelled playing field, and as a man of fairness, that is something I will always support :D

The camera work was indeed dreadful on Valentina.

I'll bet my 2 cents that Petra Mede will interview Emmelie de Forest during the voting window of the final.

Tell me about it!!! (A-O)

This year probably has the WORST camera work I have ever seen!

Everything looked so rough, choppy, messy, uncoordinated, and the camera constantly looked like it was too slow and behind where it should have been. Even the ones that were semi decent were lackluster! The performances that should have looked epic and amazing ended up looking flat and average.

The transition shots just looked very sudden and not smooth, it felt like really bad editing. Too many dodgy shots for too many countries except for as you said Bjorkman's favorites.

Why the word "Conspiracy" in this thread? Some of these things are obvious enough, not to be called conspiracy.

....ERASED...

Just to let you know, UK got #15 in the draw (not good, considering she is a very known act). They could have given her any number between 19 and 26. Also, they could have swapped it with Georgia. But, as you know Georgia's composer is __________ (please insert name in the blank). ;) And most Eastern European countries will be voting for UK. ;)

San Marino was dropped out of the Contest early to avoid the risk of winning which would have cost an enormous amount of money for the small Italian state. The Jury's were paid an unclear amount of money to keep the score for San Marino low. The reason why they didn't do this in the final instead was because they would've needed to pay and keep track of more countries, which means: More expensive and bigger risk of detection.

Happy Friday, guys...

Funny though how you are yet to come up with one single interesting comment or at least a somehow positive comment about ESC, since you're American. Why do you even bother?
