Hello, friends and enemies. I'm not entirely sure whether I am ready to invest as much of my time and energy into discussing Eurovision with you as I did in last few years, but I just want to say that I am really happy with Lie To Me being chosen as Czech entry. Some of you probably remember that Mikolas Josef was my favourite to win last year's internal selection. Now, after it was revealed that they actually wanted him to sing My Turn, I am glad that he didn´t opportunistically accept the offer just for the sake of being at Eurovision stage no matter what and instead decided to compete again with his own material. The fact that he is composer, lyricist, producer, choreographer and even music video director of his songs is imho the key to authentic and confident performance.
The song itself is so catchy, funny, provocative and wonderfully dadaistic that I fell in love with it after first listening to it and after some more, I've got to say I am addicted (as the good old Serhat would say). None of the previous Czech Eurovision songs (and none of the 5 other pre-selected this year) had as much potential to succeed as this one. With all respect to Hope Never Dies, I Stand and My Turn (each of which still has a special place in my heart), I think that first time in history I do not have to anxiously cross my fingers dreaming about close qualification thanks to pity votes as our way of "victory". What a great new feeling. 12 points, no less.
