Meh, Debbi and especially Eva had way more to offer, this is pretty standard - solid :7: points from me, but it could've been higher with the other 2.

1. Have we heard this live?? I'm very very doubtful of his abilities to sing live
2. When are they going to start referring to the country as Czechia??

hahahah what a start of the season..the third song chosen so far, the third one I like.. :D

I really like this in studio version and it's video..I will give 12 in the poll...but if live rendition is not that great I'm ready to downgrade it..

1. Albania

It took few times to watch his official video/song till I finally realized whom it reminds me that much... Liam Payne - Strip that down :) But of course on lower level. Nonetheless, it's quite catchy too. Good entry

The best song Czech republic has sent so far imho. Has good chances to qualify and do well in the final. But it's too soon to really predict this without knowing the other songs. This year could be a very strong one...

I also liked "Stand up" in this selection, but "Lie to me" also is a very good song :-)
Wouldn´t be surprised, if Czech Republic would see it´s 2nd Grand Final participation in 2018.

Glad to see there wasn't any upset in the results! It's not entirely my sort of song and it can be annoying at times, but it's very catchy and was clearly the country's best shot at a good result this year. 8 points from me for now, and close to a 10 :)

Yes! Europe is really starting off great of choosing the right song in their NF so far, thats great! :D But here it was no choice, the very charming Mikolas and his catchy song was the only choice for the Czechs this year. So much fun, even if it fails in Lisbon, the Czech Republic should be happy that they try something bold, but yet modern, catchy and fun, that could with a little luck qualify if it works live. Good luck Czechs! :D

Edit: The only thing I am worried about is the draw...being in the first half in semi 1...I can totally see this getting number 1, which would make things much harder for the song...but hopefully a lot of uptempos is getting chosen there, then it might work anyway. :)

It sounds a lot like a song that is not written for Eurovision. Also we have dirty words which will have to be changed upon a "Eurovision version". But overall, I enjoy the song a lot. It is better than what Sunstroke Project brought last year, imo. Only one thing I wonder is... is Josef good enough to perform that song live on the stage? That will pretty much determine how good Czech Republic will do but I can already see this song as a qualifier.

It's certainly possible, but I don't think the EBU will give the #1 slot to Mikolas. Yes, it generally goes to something upbeat and fun, but it also feels like something where they'd rather avoid controversial love-or-hate songs like Lie To Me. They might also want to give the country a slot that helps with its qualification chances – given that they've been considering withdrawing – to help them Q and encourage them to stay in the contest.

Thats true, but I get the feeling they will put it in the same box as Latvia 2013 and Moldova 2015 as "Songs that might get people to change channel, but they will probably be back for song 4". Looking at the other countries in the first half of semi 1, the first position will not go to Albania (being too calm of a song), Estonia (probably Elina Netsjaseva or Stig Rästa), Aisel (jazzy ballad?) or Iceland (which had no good uptempos basically). I doubt that Belarus (Alekseevs new song probably) or Belgium (Lauras mystical song) would get it either. They gotta hope for Bulgaria, Lithuania and Israel to send uptempo in that case..still possible they go uptempo, but still, not many suitible number 1s left... But hopefully Czechs get help with the draw for being a country that needs a little "help". :p

THE GOOD:
-Overall, his vocals are good and they fit the song well.
-It's memorable.
-They can do a lot with this song as far as the performance is concerned.

THE BAD:
-The vocals in some areas are a bit mumbly, if that makes sense.
-This has the potential to be taken in the wrong direction come performance time with the wrong staging, etc. if the music video is anything to go by.

THE VERDICT:
This song could be a dark horse if the Czechs play their cards right. What do I mean by this? By "playing their cards right", I mean for this song's performance to have cool staging and not too many goofy antics. The main thing here is for the song to take center stage. In the meantime, this fun song has good bones, even in the parts where the vocals could use some enunciation and cleaning up. 8 points

Not my favourite at all but i'll let Czechia off the hook as I want them so strongly to stay with us in the contest, and I think "Lie To Me" gives them an amazing chance to actually do well. When I first heard it I was kind of amused, but on the second listen I was agitated. The pre-chorus is the bit I sort of like oddly enough, but the rest kind of grates. It's fairly well produced though and seems like it's got the whole package needed to do well. If Moldova last year could come top 3 with a song that sounded like it was made with a budget of £1.57, then what's to stop this from achieving a high finish?

4 points.
