The very line right before the first line you quote is:
“Fallen Angel” is written by TIX himself and is a synthpop ballad about unrequited love."

It is true that lines you quote do not necessarily commit to that view as being an accurate one of the situation. But in context the lines you quote come across as explaining the nature of an unrequited relationship.

I point to:
"the idea of a crush that one can never have because they believe they can’t match up,"
...which is interesting given this line in the official lyrics:
"And I’m still not sure what you ever saw in me."

Seeing it worded that way without further explanation is what gave me the idea that the view there is that the song is just about unrequited love and that the greater accuracy elsewhere is a side-effect of the sentence structure.

But of course I could be wrong. And I certainly admit I could have worded things more accurately myself.

I definitely see your point. If they said "the narrator believes they can't match up", it would make more sense, because his love interest actually did reciprocate his feelings (your quote is the evidence for that) and it's him who shuts down the relationship.

In the end though everyone interprets lyrics differently and some artists are also okay with it when there are different approaches to their songs.

Yeah but cliche is something that has been done ad nauseam in lyrics and this is not one of these things (while 'Voices' from Sweden is cliched). Also the lyrics of GUIGO are supposed to be interpreted twofold.

Well damn, there goes my claim.

Can’t believe people arguing about the lyrics of the Bulgarian song, when 99% of the countries have more cliche dull lyrics!

Well obviously we get older, when we grow up. For me that sounds kind of cliche.
But it's a metaphor though? It's a play on words. Yes, growing up is literally getting old, but it's also 'getting old' for Victoria, as in, she's getting tired of growing up and having to let go of the memories and nostalgia of childhood while going into adulthood and the responsabilities that come with that.
It's really not cliche in my opinion, it's a topic that isn't very talked about in lyrics, especially in Eurovision entries.

It is undeniable Bulgaria has the best lyrics this year. You may or may not like the song, but lyrically speaking is brilliant, as well as the rest of the songs of her EP. I'd also say France and Switzerland are good as well if you get to understand French language.

France is good even in the English translation but I think some people would find it to self-centered for their liking. But if you know creative people or are one yourself her message can really hit home. I think the translation of Albania also has some interesting lines in there.

Wow, I'm probably in minority or the only one that enjoy the lyrics of Norway. So simple and so beautiful, it hits me like a slap.
I do think that both Fallen Angel and Ut Av Morket have nice lyrics, but english version is more straight forward, 'in your face'.
''How could she ever love someone like me; She's out of reach''
''I'm fighting all of my demons tryna tear me apart; And I'm still not sure what you ever saw in me''

Boooy, I'm falling for that no matter how bad you are.xheat:12:

This lyrics from Norwegian lyrics are even better:

''But she dries all thousand tears of mine
Makes light out of the darkness for me''

Also, Zitti e Buoni lyrics are amazing.x12points

Others, mostly ballads have also okay lyrics...

The worst probably Serbia (but can you expect a poetry there lol?), Moldova...

:is: has by far the best lyrics and it's not close. They're not deep or poetic but that's the point. They're simple, easy to understand and most of all, genuine. On the other hand, while :bg: lyrics aren't bad, they come off just as edgy as :fi: does. It's poetry for poetry's sake

No no, I really enjoy them as well, they hit home super hard when you were in a similar situation once; afraid of a relationship with someone who loved you because he was way too pure and good for yourself and deserved better.

Also agree on Italy

France lyrics is so relatable to me.

They address one of the root problems in any relationship. Men thought women are clingy and needy, therefore invalidates their feelings, but women just want their voices to be heard and for their feelings to be acknowledged.

I heard the song and immediately thought of my girlfriend, and wonder if she felt that way. :(

But I thought that French lyrics are not about romantic relationships?

To each their own I guess.
Anyway my take of the song is not of romantic relationship, but more to psychological aspect of a relationship.

This song can also be interpreted as a cry out from a woman suffering from domestic violence or an abusive relationship. :(

Wow, that is quite far-reaching. I would rather cling to my own interpretation that is consistent with what Barbara thinks about it based on interviews.

Azerbaijan's song, "Mata Hari" has some of the stupidest lyrics ever.

"I'M A GODLESS
SPY I'M A SPY
I'LL UNCOVER
ALL OF YOUR SECRETS
I WANT THEM"

first of all, if you're a spy you don't go about boasting you are a spy in a foghorn voice. THAT DEFEATS THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF BEING A SPY. twit.

secondly, she's all like "DRINKING MY POISONOUS WATER" later, girl if you do that, you're DEAD.

thirdly, yet ANOTHER song that takes an infamous female historical figure and turns her into a WICKED DEMON WHORE.

Finally, um, she pays "homage" to epic spy Mata Hari (by slut-shaming her) and yeah so epic. So epically bad at espionage she was caught and killed, you mean?

What a fucking amateur.
For the "drinking my poisonous water " , it's meant for the person fooled by her. She does intend to kill them

I don't know about worse but Bulgaria's entry has some jarring choice of words for a song lyrically and musically

"Nervous system aching , Tetris , Anxiety"

Wow, I have never thought about thinking of that song in those terms. From her interviews and the first verse I had purely interpreted it it as a song about an artist wanting to be accepted for who they are, but the lyrics other than the first verse totally fits with such an interpretation. Quite powerfully too, I think.
