Really? I got the impression the reactions to JSB were mostly positive and even enthusiastic in the beginning. Although the band obviously polarises as well. But yeah, many people are a bit disappointed with their NF song.
Well, I expressed myself in an exaggerated manner, of course. I meant at first just about everyone seemed excited (comparable to the hype in the UK thread before the British act was revealed) and now most seem to have moved on to other favorites and JSB is somewhere in the middle of the ranking now for many or even close to the bottom. They didn't live up to the huge expectations and the hype. I didn't mean to say that they are hated now, of course. Nevertheless, some have described them as a joke entry comparable to the Trackshittaz.
I based my comparison on these circumstances but I also added "on a smaller scale".
I also expected more and I am disappointed that there is no harpsichord in
Absolutio, for example. Furthermore,
Absolutio seems repetitive in a way that I don't fully enjoy. It's not the
Around the World kind of repetitive and there are other weaknesses. I think they have songs on their album that are much better than their Eurovision songs and I think they compromised their style because they were told they needed to be more mainstream and because they wanted a powerful start and ending to stand out among the competition. I really enjoy their older songs including songs that probably don't have any mainstream appeal but I also understand that not every style of music would work on the Eurovision stage. Three minutes among 26 other acts and the need to appeal to a mainstream audience watching from home is limiting in many ways.
Nevertheless, I still prefer them and I feel like I'm the only one here now.
I have been listening to their songs a lot. Well, it's possible I still like them because I like their other songs.
I suppose DAWA would be okay too. The Makemakes or Celina Ann have nice enough songs but nothing special. And I'm not a fan of the rest of the competition.
