I don't wanna know yet... :D

But one thing is sure, ORF doesn't stick to any formulas at all, they always try something different and alternative. I guess that's good.

Has there ever been an indie song at ESC? I just can recall Brainstorm in 2000, who else?

I could live with him not qualifying, and now pour over me..... xdiva

But his songs are so trippy.

He's completely different to the other artists and something we haven't had at Eurovision before, alternative music this rich . Renato must pass!

Even if he entered a more accessible song like this one here (which would actually be illegible), it would be wonderful I think. Reminds me a lot of the late tragic English folk singer, Nick Drake here. Absolutely beautiful.

Sorry for the over excitement. I'm just so chuffed to have found an artist like this taking part at Eurovision.xheat

Kedvesem (Hungary 2013)?

xwhat That was just laid back pop in my opinion. Not that I like the term "indie" anyway. It really has lost it's meaning. It's not a genre but today it's used by many to describe most bands that aren't setting the charts on fire. "Indie" was once used simply to describe bands that were on independent labels. It's become a sound now and it's as broad a tag as "pop" and not a particularly good one. "Kedvesem" was far too clean and polished to be described as indie I think, he doesn't fit this whole indie sound either. Mumiy Troll Russia 2001 are the only artist that springs to my mind that could be described as an indie band, also Israel 2012.

Softengine is not indie imho and ByeAlex is Chillout-Music. I could see them both popping the charts.

Indie doesn't mean underground and unknown.

It's means (or meant) on an independent label. Softengine are signed to Sony music.

Yes, but in that sense 80% of Eurovision artists are indie. If we're talking about a sub-genre of classifying music it's most commonly indie rock or indie pop which Softengine share many characteristics with. Indie rock can also be in the charts however.

Yeah, that is true. That's why I don't like the term "Indie" because it's conflicting. I'm confused as to what it's supposed to mean and why some of the biggest bands in the world that are on major labels are classified as it. It kind of defeats the whole point. I don't see what's indie/independent about commercial rock bands on massive labels playing their polished stadium pop rock to sell out crowds of 1000's.

I do understand "Indie" is a sound now, it's just a silly tag in my opinion. If I feel lazy, i'll generally just say something is alternative. The "I" word makes me cringe a tad as it's way overused.

xwhatWho? I like Luc Arbogast, singer from Francexheat

But this is the Austrian thread where we have all been instructed to speak about Renato Unterberg for the foreseeable future.

I looked up Clara Blume on YouTube and found that she sounds almost exactly like a singer here in the States (Jessica Meuse) whom I quite like, plus the song title looks super promising, so I'm throwing my support behind her.
