Re: ARMENIA 2013

I don't think her performance was that bad at all. She would have been in a top 5 with the juries in 2008 I think.

The juries want wailing ballad voices, everything else is lesser in their world (they don't even seem to understand that sometime less is more and different type of voices fits different type of genres and performances better than others). I mean take Gaitana in 2012 for instance, she slaughtered that entry live. Yes she could sing, but it was just TOO much... but the juries loved it not even caring about the fact that Gaitana made the song tuneless with her over-wailing. Imo juries care very little about the songs and how they are treated, over-singing is a good thing in their book regardless of if it fits the entries or not... they live in the fantasy that this is The Voice of Europe... but forget that this is a contest of original songs and not showcasing voices with singing covers.

Anyways, as for Sirusho I don't think she did that bad live? I don't get the criticism really.

Yeah, let's pick a wailing singer with a Swedish penned ballad instead like neighbor Georgia is doing... *yawn*

Imo, she is a wailing singer who can be rough on the ears. Bad performances aren't exactly jury fodder, are they?

I didn't say anything about the song, that's just your preconceived notion.

Not always. Cyprus, Greece and Romania finished 3rd, 4th and 5th with the juries in SF1 last year, and the perfomances weren't that great.
And yes, I totally agree Sirusho's performance wasn't that bad. Sure it wasn't something excellently well done, but it definetely was good enough to make respect to the great quality and catchy song that "Qele qele" was, so I definetely think it could finish in the top 5 in the juries.

Plus, 5 years have passed (wow time goes by fast ) and her vocals skills are even better, so I think she can really deliver.

I didn't say you said, it was more a nod at the whole 'let's cater to the juries' frenzy that is currently going on... I didn't mean you asked for any of those things I mentioned...

Well, the juries didn't support any of those in the final atleast... not sure if there are different juries in the semis or that the competition in the semis makes their choice different.

I agree on Sirusho though, it was far from a disaster performance, on contrary it was rather good... she's a pop singer, she had an uptempo song... it's not really meant that she should go all Whitney pre-crack on us with such an entry.

Imo, she is. Her weakness as a performer isn't really a plus for her in terms of the juries. And like it or not, the juries decide 50% of the outcome so they have to be considered as well if the goal is to get a good result.

But their taste is also killing the contest, they seem to only bother about voices... I mean someone could wail the phone-book in Disney ballad style and be rewarded 12pts from the juries...

I want good songs, Sirusho is not so bad and "big voices" of the sort juries like doesn't even fit that type of music. What I meant that if all starts only caring about juries, we'll have a disaster contest with boring dated ballads... I prefer risky entries like this.

The thing is, she really isn't weak as a performer.

Well that's just your preference/opinion. My comment was focussing on her as part of a complete package of an entry that will compete in front of the juries.

You think she isn't and I think she is. We have a difference of opinion. Also, I don't find her voice pleasant at all.

Sure that's my opinion, never said it wasn't. Yeah, and if the juries got what they want we'll never see entries like this... which would be sad. So therefor I hope Armenia focuses on the other 50% voting and not just try to cater to the juries.

But, I don't think she is that bad of a performer in the first place tbh.

That is so true. I'm honestly afraid that if juries continue like they are, we'll never have a good pop tune finishing high, and eventually, it will be just ballads and stuff like that.
Don't get me wrong, my taste is not on those mainstream pop songs that exist nowadays. But some pop songs are actually quite good, specially ethno pop like Armenia 2008. And you're right, if the juries continue on ignoring good pop songs like this, this genre will be less and less present in the ESC, and we won't be having some pearls like "Qele qele" :(

Yup, since the juries were brought back ethno and native languages entries have been put to the back, especially ethno stuff. The broadcaster's are so busy catering to the taste of the juries that we can totally see the impact on the songs chosen.

Re: ARMENIA 2013

Nah, out of the rumored PreGomesh would be the best pick by far! It's a very contemporary cool dance song with ethno elements, in native language and something unique over it... let the juries cry then, they'll have Georgia to support now, I'd rather have cool and interesting music like this... hopefully Armenia will NOT follow the 'please the juries - bandwagon' because it's killing the contest.

Go Sirusho - Go PreGomesh xcheer

after the failure of boom-boom with its non-ethnic tune,i don't think that Armenia would make the same mistake.the ethnic songs is our visitg card, let it be so.

I agree, I hope the juries don't sink the entry if it's a pop song, but you never know because they are pretty unpredictable.

There is less of a chance of that happening if the song is good. There is a level of unpredictability with the jury, but Boom Boom was just crap imo.

Nobody is talking about Boom boom. That was indeed a bad song and it deserved to be tanked.

Actually it was mentioned one post above mine. ;)

I was saying that Boom Boom isn't indication enough that Armenia sending a non-ethnic song will result in a flop. If they send a better non-ethnic song they could potentially do well. The ethnic flavour of a song doesn't really impact anything because they could just as well send a bad ethnic song and flop with that.

I agree that Boom Boom shouldn't be an indication of a flop indeed. If a non-ethnic pop song as quality, it can qualify.
But from Armenia I prefer ethnic pop songs, as they have done them very well so far (except 2006).

Strangely I have a bad feeling about this decision. I get the feeling like the strong entry they really wanted (my guess Sirusho's "PreGomish") but she declined, so now they'll do this to find the best of the lesser good.

But we'll see.
