If a new country was invited every year as a guestcountry with possible future of permanent member in EBU and Eurovision which country would you be most excited about?

For me USA and then China. Would be nice to hear some real country and Pekingopera.

I'd rather see New Zealand before the US or China. I guess because of their closeness to Australia, not sure if they care about Eurovision as much though.

And if we were to get an Asian country I'd want Japan or South Korea first. (Have no idea if they even have any interest in Eurovision though)

I think we're fine without them though unless it's an Australia situation and Eurovision becomes very popular in their countries. It should definitely be an exception and not something that's just casually handed out to any country outside of Europe.

Why are all songs like ass this year? For the first time ever I don't have a hardcore favorite or top 3 or top 10 or top nothing

Coming with new music isnt easy when so much has been written. But I beiieve there is lot left to be written. gettin the right composer constellations is importent.

Benny Anderson is old but perhaps some country could contact him. Fredrik Kempe could be in the team to. Or they should be encouraged to write a song for Sweden.

Here is Kempes Du och jag mot världen.

Same here. Honestly, never in my life have I seen a line-up of songs so incredibly tasteless. It's like half of the bunch is novelty/jokish (and not actually funny), then a quarter is just absolutely trash and the last quarter of songs at least tries to bring something but fails to do it and ends up being mediocre or bland at best.

No one can seriously defend ESC this year when casuals say that ESC is just one big circus. They would be absolutely right about it. It's got nothing to do with music anymore.

I just ranked Semi 2 on the scoreboard, and holy s*** is this bad.
I care about Austria, Czechia and Finland and wouldn't mind Australia going through, but the rest of the songs could be shot straight into the sun and I wouldn't miss them lol.
AUT, CZE, FIN and ISR (sobstory and propaganda machine will go brrr) are the certain Q in this one i feel.

I only care about Latvia in SF2.
In SF1 I care about Albania, Sweden and San Marino.
Of the AQs I quite like Germany.

Maybe more songs will grow on me when I see the performances?

Now that I've heard all the songs, this year is the worst lineup of songs for Eurovision since 2011.

Like every year you will get a few people that will say "this is the worst year of Eurovision songs," and it's always over-the-top nonsense, but this time they wouldn't even be lying. I don't even like 10 songs from this year, not even 10. 🤣

Australia is my fave (not a contender but it should be), Lithuania, Latvia, Albania, Austria, Czechia, and Germany. That's it.

At least the voting won't be as easily predictable for the fans this year.

Yeah for me I think there are only 5 songs I enjoy this year. Albania, Latvia, San Marino, Germany, Sweden.
The rest I either am indifferent to, or strongly dislike.
Agree it's the worst since 2011.

I don't think it's a terrible/bad year but it's definitely the weakest one in this decade so far, imo.
Whilst I can still come up with a Top 10-15 I truly care about, I'm not really into the majority of songs. Depending on which songs are about to qualify, I can still feel pretty excited about the GF, though.... and who knows... maybe there are a couple of songs which will surprise us after the performances like Ireland or even Cyprus last year.

That said, I feel like it's not a very "competitive" year - Austria might be acing the jury vote - or will it be more spread out (Austria, Czechia, Switzerland, maybe even France, Netherlands and Italy or even Ukraine?).
I can totally see Sweden, Israel and Finland getting a Top 3 televoting result... At least, the results might be even more exciting this year..... (unless the "professional" juries are about to give a shitload of points to a single entry again neglecting ethno-inspired songs again).

I want to expect the unexpected: Make :al: win, pls. They deserve it so much!

I'm wondering if Switzerland could pull a top 5 jury result, especially if they nail the atmosphere through the staging.

I'd be deliriously happy for them. I mean, it's a quality entry and Zoe can truly shine on the calm/quiet parts of the song - something which will be quite "unique" in this edition, imo.

I don't want to sound "biased" but I think it's the best host entry since "Taken By A Stranger".
(alright "When The Music Dies" comes close, imo).

The only instantly catchy Eurovision entries this year:

Sweden, Estonia, Malta, UK, San Marino, Germany, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Slovenia, Denmark, Luxembourg.

(I'm not saying they're all my favourite entries, but I think the number of not very catchy songs is quite low.)

Exactly, and I think the bookies could be quite wrong in their assessment of some of the songs. Even in their current top 10, there are entries that I could see not qualifying. And in the other end, I think they might be sleeping on a song like Luxembourg's.

I think people are being overly harsh critics of this year's entries, saying it's the worst ever - at least that's the sense I'm getting.
I must say I disagree.
I think there are so many good songs this year. But I also know that I'm often the polar opposite of the majority when it comes to this.
Last year, so many people raved about what an amazing song year it was. I, however, didn't think much of any of the songs, to the point that I did not care who won - at all.

And the fact that we (finally) have a year where there's no obvious winner [let's see what the situation is after rehearsals start] just makes it even better.

I'm really looking forward to May! :D

After all, it is an ok year.
2011, 2013 and 2017 were way weaker.
Semifinal 2 gives messy vibes and results.
Semifinal 1 gives surprises. I am getting confident about our chances there.

The semis are the most unbalanced ever. My 14th in semi 2 beats my 9th in semi 1

Overall I'm very happy with the lineup given the low number.. i just wish we had 40+ countries
