Congratulations to Mr. ShoeFlo aka the succulent whiteshoes for his win with the most charming of little songs. Congratulations also to Calvan aka the incredible lavieenrose for the surprising 2nd place with a piece of music just as beautiful.
Long over the top post time.
Soap&Skin is my most favourite female artist alive today making music. I discovered her a few years ago at a time when I really needed it. Up until that point I hadn't quite connected with an artist in the same way. She's one of those artists that gives me a pain in my chest. These songs hit me hard, and Flo sent one of my favourite songs ever to this spin-off.
"Mr. Gaunt PT 1000" is without a doubt Anja's most accessible song. It featured on a Ford advert. I've read many disgruntled comments from people who had heard this song and been enticed by it's beauty, on it's strength alone purchasing her debut album, "Lovetune For Vacuum" and being shocked and disappointed. She has other beautiful ballads but they are filled with dissonance and a good chunk of her tracks are blood-curdling, horrific even (see "Sugarbread" that I sent to a previous spin-off). She's very difficult to swallow and not an easy artist to sit down and listen to, unless you're cherry picking. I love all sides of her music though, even the pieces that make me feel uncomfortable. There are many artists out there today merely playing with darkness. This is very much the complete opposite. The songs from her second album "Narrow" (my favourite record of all time) are even darker. Anyway, delighted to see this achingly beautiful song succeed here. It's wonderful how WorldVision has a place in their heart for melancholic songs and special artists like Soap&Skin.
I fell in love with you world
but I know, I know it's just a sky
I don't know where, where I go
