What I love most about spinoffs is how low-stakes they are and thus how it feels like a safer space for sharing music, in some ways, than the main game. I'll be sending a song to this spinoff that essentially consists of four minutes of lonely, poignant, hungover slurring that I really think I'd be too scared to send to WV because of how meaningful I find it. It'd flop there, and it's also going to go down like a lead balloon here, but what I'm laying on the line here feels a lot less risky.

Agree 100%. I'd also add that it's a fantastic opportunity to send artists/pieces that from regions where you'd normally not go to because you have only one thing you want to send thence. I just don't have enough music from my homeland that I know and would want to send to go there for WV proper, but here I can just the occasional piece of brilliance!
