We all have our own taste. And I can see people complaining about 'safe songs' who also go for safe songs once in a while. And besides, I can't really see what's the problem of it. We've all got the right to send to the contests whatever we feel like sending without having to deal with touch of criticism as if others owned the truth or a 'better' taste than the average members.
