Peninsular Malaysia (where the capital Kuala Lumpur is located) is bordered by Thailand to the north, hence not an island. You might be thinking of "East Malaysia" (where Borneo is) but essentially they are all one country

Yeah, the peninsular part (where Kuala Lumpur is) is connected to the main continent. Separated with Borneo Islands (also part of Malaysia) by South China Sea.
