Only around 1 hour is left until the deadline and it looks like we will have 13 participants in this edition. I can still accept if anyone sends their song tomorrow until noon. I am planning to start preparing the show in the afternoon after I come from work and tidy up the house a bit, and hopefully get the whole thing done by the night at the latest.

I wonder where the other three from last edition are gone, though.

The Slogan Paint It Black is inspired by the American band Rolling Stones song "Paint it, black" which was released in 1966.

The song references to the Vietnam War, even if not explicitly. By the time the song was released, public opinion was already turning against the Vietnam War, which for many seemed to drag on endlessly with no end in sight. By 1970, the majority of Americans believed that the U.S. had made a mistake by sending so many troops to fight and die pointlessly in Vietnam. War and all of the death caused by it were definitely on people's minds.

While Mick Jagger suggested that the song's meaning is inconsequential and perhaps influenced by drug use, "Paint it Black" endures as a rock and roll song because it has so many layers of meaning that indirectly connect with the experiences of a variety of different people living and struggling in an era of political uncertainty: Vietnam veterans and mourners, young members of the counterculture, Black Americans struggling during the Civil Rights movement and anyone experiencing a sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction during a tumultuous time in American history.

The Birth of Venus, Sandro Botticelli (1482 - 1485)

The painting shows the relaxed atmosphere of people on a lazy Sunday afternoon in an island. This painting is an excellent example of pointillism, where many dots are joined together to create an image.

The Kiss, Gustav Klimt (1907)
One of the first pieces of art in the Art Nouveau style, this painting used gold leaf as the background. This painting is renowned for this style.

Olmpia, Edouard Manet (1863)
The painting created quite a controversy as it showed a nude woman with a gaze and subtlety that indicated that she is a mistress. It is also an early example of realism style.

Las Meninas, Diego Velázquez (1656)
Las Meninas portrays Margarita Teresa of Spain as a young child along with the King and Queen of Spain. This is conisdered to be an important baroque painting.

The Arnolfini Marriage, Jay van Evck (1434)
The painting portrays the Italian businessman Giovanni Arnolfini and his pregnant wife in their home in the city of Bruges.

The Scream, Edvard Munch (1893)
The painting shows the distorted face of a figure against a bloody sky. The hill landscape in the background adds to this picture's charm. It is also one of the first few paintings done in expessionism style where the reality is blurred to give more importance to emotions.

Starry Night, Vincent Van Gogh (1889)
The painting shows the village of Saint-Remy under a swirling sun. It is one of the most well-known images in modern culture and is currently housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Creation of Adam, Michelangelo (1508)
It is one of the paintings that adorn the 12,000 square feet area of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.

The Last Supper, Leonardo da Vinci (1498)
It is a painting that depicts the last meal that Jesus had with his disciples. Displayed at the dining hall of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, this painting has also created much controversy around Mary Magdalene, the supposed character sitting next to Jesus.

Nighthawks, Edward Hopper (1942)
The painting has been described as Hopper's best-known work and is one of the most recognizable paintings in American art. Within months of its completion, it was sold to the Art Institute of Chicago on 13 May 1942 for $3,000.

Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, Caravaggio (1608)
The painting shows a realistic depiction of a murder moment in a prison. The gloom of the picture and the expressions of the onlookers make it a true classical masterpiece. It is displayed in St. John’s Cathedral in Valletta, Malta.

School of Athens, Raphael (1511)
This painting contains pictures of famous philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle walking in the middle along with other philosophers on the sides. It is now located in the Vatican.

The Third of May, Francisco Goya (1814)
The painting shows Napoleon's attack on Spaniards. This is one of the first Spanish paintings to show war in bad light.

Whistler's Mother, James McNeill Whistler (1871)
Also known as "Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1". In this painting, Whistler depicts his mother sitting on a chair against a grey wall. This painting is so called because the artist has used only black and grey shades in this painting.

Just where do you all get all these great songs?
I just recently feel like I'm out of songs that would stand out in editions like this.
And my own searches take forever to find at least one decent one.
Don't even have an idea how to participate in both NSC and WLSC in the (hopefully) nearest future, except I just play with the same songs in both contests

Thanks to LesterMalvo for the show and especially for the recap which really helps a lot to decide the final points after fully listening to all the songs.

Good thing is I won't start preparing results show until tomorrow. So you have until tomorrow midday in case you won't send them until the deadline. I am planning to come home in the evening and start preparing everything right away, so I won't be able to give extra time once I get started.

I will inform you properly tomorrow if I will be able to give you the results on Monday or Tuesday, but I can confirm that Monday is a lot more likely and in any case it won't be later than Tuesday evening.
