I feel this is such a difficult year to predict. We are going to be losing thirteen countries this year, yet I can only predict the failure of three of them with confidence.. San Marino, Portugal and The Netherlands.
We always have some shockers that get fans going insane and I believe this years shocker will be the qualification of Moldova and The Netherlands failure.
In the first semi, I can imagine practically every song there being able to advance. Russia and Denmark are sending the same old and will most likely sail through (although Denmark is extra dull this year so I haven't put it as an exact certainty). Russia could fart into a tin can for three minutes and pass so their repeat of 2013 but with a more conventionally beautiful woman this time is going to repeat that success and worryingly, perhaps even top it. Estonia is sailing through. Finland is going to top the public vote here I believe. The jury will place them around the middle, they'll be sailing through as well. I worry for Belgium which I feel might be too off-kilter a piece of pop for the audience watching. Serbia is another country that I think will just fall short. Big powerhouses singing europop doesn't seem to be in anymore. Romania will follow in the footsteps of Turkey 2011 and fail for the first time. Middle aged bald men singing rock will be their downfall too. I loved Turkey's song though, Romania's song just blends in with all the others this year. Greece are on new, dodgy ground, but the song is a jury magnet, plus the country is Greece.. so..... they'll make it comfortably but won't set the scoreboard alight.
The second semi is difficult as well but seems a bit easier to predict. Cyprus, Czech Republic and Switzerland (the latter two who I think have great songs) are countries known to struggle these past few years at the contest. I don't think any of them have done enough to break their curse. I'm hoping that Switzerland could be a jury magnet though. I might replace them with Israel who I have put as a qualifier simply because they offer us something sorely lacking this year, fun... but then again, i'd probably replace them both with Montenegro once their song has been revealed as we all know Željko Joksimović's record. Sweden and Azerbaijan cake walking it to the final is obvious. Malta and Latvia perhaps less so, but I think they are the major dark horses of the year. Top ten placements in the final for them both coming up I believe. Bias against the Norwegian entry here from me, but I think they could be borderline and do an Anna Bergendahl perhaps even.
