The mayors of a number of Geramany's major cities are now passionately making the case for their city to host the ESC next year. However, don't expect a quick decision as the ARD will have to examine which city's infrastructure (venue, hotels, airport, etc) best meet Eurovision's needs.
Berlin's the capital and a world city.
Cologne's Germany's foremost media hub and the national finals took place in Stefan Raab's home city. Also Germany's gay capital. It also boasts Germany's largest indoor arena.
Hamburg stages every year the official ESC party and the NDR (part of the ARD family of public broadcasters) has its headquarters there.
Hanover's Lena's home town and is part of the NDR's home turf.
Munich hosted the ESC in 1983 and Pro Sieben, the private channel which joined forces with the public broadcaster ARD in organising the national selection this year, has its headquarters there.
Personally I think Berlin's a no-brainer. I doubt many Europeans would understand us not having the political and cultural capital of Germany host the ESC. And next May the O2-World, the city's largest indoor arena, will be available. Bit small though for my taste. I wish they'd be able to do it in the Olympiastadion, but that's out of the question (for starters, the German Football club will take place there also on the 21st - unless they change the dates).
I suppose you'd get again a massive public viewing fest between the Brandenburg Gate and the Siegessäule.
Anyway, what city do you favour?
