The US can have a huge contest of their own. All 52 states competite in 8 finals and meets in a grand finale of 26 numbers. Just the cheer numbers and diversity of american music is mind blowing. Over 279 million people, many huge arenas and a television-friendly concept. It would of been huge.

Just imagine:

"Song Nr. 3! Texas! "With love I found you." "

Gosh no. That would make eurovision be overlooked and I just cant have that
Plus, they would probably do something like American Idol out of it and would miss the whole points. Besides, if the entries would be something like USA's mainstream songs I'd give it a pass.

I think they should have their own show...... If US win they will have to transmit the shows from US in the mornings local time and who many US people is going to watch that?

No let US broadcast ESC If they want to just like Australia........ Or let them do their own

I personally wouldn't watch an American version of ESC, it doesn't fit and the context is really different.

What I would love is for BBC America or ABC (the American broadcaster associated with EBU) to show ESC either live or delayed until the evening. I don't care, I just want to watch it on TV instead of the internet

Yeah BBC America should broadcast it like a day after, and just the Grand Final for starters. If properly advertised it might gather a decent audience and promote BBC America further!

If anything ABC should advertise it. Watching ESC is better than watching noon-time golf matches

Surprisingly, more and more of my friends are becoming aware of ESC. I have 5 American friends who watched it this year! :D

A big NO from me!
I like Eurovision because it is a great alternative to mainstream American music.
If they want to be involved, they can broadcast it or even be able to vote in the final (I think they will vote neutrally).
But I don't really want them to have a song in the contest.
But if they won't make some kind of American Idol out of it, and take it seriously sending sth like Rihanna, I take back all I have said. :D

Never, not participation, not voting - it's not for us, we can only be spectators. I do wish there were as much enthusiasm for it here as Australia seems to have, though. The only people I've met who follow it either have close family in Europe (many of us don't, even if we do have distant European ancestry), or study/have an independent interest in something Europe-related. I would be in favor of a broadcast here, maybe on BBC America as suggested, but I can't imagine it achieving a large viewership from the set who watch American talent shows, for instance.

Eurovision comes on at noon-3pm depending on time zone in the US, btw. Not a horrific time of morning like in Australia, but still early enough that it's not appropriate to start drinking.

Well i doubt Russia will expect any points from... And i'm sure they will flip out if countries like the UK, France and Germany given Russia points. USA would be the biggest politicizer in the contest.

It could be broadcasted in a deferred hour. Australia broadcasts it at night I think.

Oh my! Isn't the USA already in the contest?
I mean every year we get Disney ballads and standard pop-rock songs, I guess it's enough :D

My short answer for the US joining is no. One of the reasons why I like Eurovision is that it's not US produced, and I can learn about great musicians from around the world. BBC America should show Eurovision with BBC commentators, because I bet they could find a target market for it if more people know what the show was. If you love our sets though, hire a US designer!

As for 50 Statesvision or whatever, we kind of already have that. It's America's Got Talent. I think due to cultural differences, the show is very different from Eurovision. For one, in stead of music acts people can perform whatever they want. Though most of the acts are musical. Additionally, there is not much of an age cut off. 10 year olds can compete against granny.

But what really makes AGT different from ESC is the attitude of the participants and the fans. Participators are trying to 'make it', therefore by taking themselves too seriously the show loses that funny and campy feel that ESC has, and makes ESC so wonderful. Also, I know people argue that ESC is not political, but it totally is. That is another reason why I love it, politics are fascinating! AGT is not political. And finally, the fans are such a huge part of what makes any show/ music act great. ESC fans are so passionate about the show, which is wonderful to see. AGT fans are no so die hard about it.

I can't see a ESC version of the show happening in the US. Then again, everyone in Hollywood also said 'The Voice' was the dumbest idea ever. So who knows.

Well I think that :au: stay in Eurovision, will encourage to :us: to join Eurovision as well because in the USA lastly the contest is gain recognition as well.

If many thought Australia in Eurovision would be a great thing, await when the Americans and other Americans will invade Eurovision too to assume our world renowned singers  then the EBU will be regreting in having manipulated and changed their own rules at their will.
