Re: Updates/Requests/Improvements

My avatar has just disappeared! What happened?

Re: Updates/Requests/Improvements

An announcement was done a little while ago. We have to make space due to the increased number of forum members which is why we have to limit the avatar & signature sizes etc. Those who feel strongly about larger graphics can sign up for Premium Access.
I understand that. But the maximum size requirement for an avatar right now is 300 KB. That's HUGE. Unless you have an animated avatar, no picture avatar (with a 90x90 dimension) is ever going to come up to that. So why not lower the file size requirement (to I don't know.. 150 KB), and up the dimension to 100x100 (which is the usual standard on most forums)?

The same goes for the signature requirement. 300 KB is also huge. My old banner which was 700x150, is only 93 KB. Again, if you would lower the file size requirement, people could have wider signatures (if they wanted) but they wouldn't take up more space. A 335x125 banner of 300 KB requires more bandwidth than a 700x150 banner of 93 KB. Just saying. ;)

^ Hmm, I think that it would depend on how "complicated" is the avatar / signature (I mean, how many colours, etc.)

Png would take up more space than jpg

Imo, 300kb for siggies is not that HUGE (like you say, lol) at all esp considering png format.
And now people can "thank" you for the new ava requirement. Just saying ;)

What do mean by thank me for the new avatar requirement? Surely it wasn't because of me that it was lowered?

Why do people need to use png? Jpg works just as well and gives you a smaller file.

I can set it back if you want

Maybe because jpg sucks at quality? (very much btw)

Re: Updates/Requests/Improvements

I didn't want to make sigs and avatars smaller AND the KB at the same time. Right now I am testing to see if this is sufficient to keep the forum up and running. If for some reason I have to make further adjustments I will do that at a later point. :D

Not necessarily. A jpg at low quality does yes. When you use a graphics program, you can choose at what quality you want the jpg to be. 100% quality jpg (which gives you the largest file size obviously) is basically the same thing to a png in terms of quality.

Edit; I don't really care so much about the signature, but please, can't we at least have an 100x100 avatar?

Depends of image coding, sometimes you choose 100 but it's still bad (quite typical situation for me) (((
Also depends of your video card drivers, monitor drivers, YUV/RGB setting etc.

Not a fond of resizing avas as well but it's up to Matt.

Re: Updates/Requests/Improvements

I have a question, not really in updates/requests/improvements category but here it goes

how can I change that "Senior member" thing (above the avatar)?
on some forums, u can write whatever u want there so I'm wondering if I can do it here (searced for that option but couldn't find it, maybe I overlooked it or smth)
I seriously diskile that "senior member". like I'm in a retirement or smth xcry

Just premium members can change own title. "Senior member" changes with posts :/

Just noticed there is no photo albums anymore . Fine by me, I wanted to delete it anyway and now don't have to bother ;). But just out of curiosity, do I need to have premium access to have it?

I posted an image using an URL uploader. Now I want to post another one that I have on my computer but it won't let me.
