The Eurovision class of 2025 is not yet complete but is starting to get close enough that I feel we can start making generalizations about its identity--and quality. If you looked at my average rating, you'd think I thought it a weak year, but I don't see it that way. This year is full of big creative choices that take major swings for the fences and risks. Sometimes the results are flawed. Sometimes they're really flawed. Sometimes they're absolutely disastrous. But I really like how many of these songs are coming with an identity and standing on their own two feet. I somewhere between disliked and hated "The Code," but I can't help but think this is the legacy of its victory. If that's Nemo's legacy, I can't complain about that. So I'm enjoying Eurovision 2025, even if I wish I had a good deal more songs I could get absolutely hyped for.
The UK is jumping right in on this general trend with a very bold entry, and, as I do with many songs this year, I really like how ambitious it is. We're just constantly shifting tempo, volume, genre, mood, everything, mimicking the "what the hell just happened? Not sure but I liked it" lyrical hook (such as it is). It's a lot to take in, and I could see myself really growing into it, but by the time it's done, I end up exhausted and feeling like I've lived a thousand lifetimes. It really teeters on the line of being just plain-old unfocused, but I THINK it lands on the right side of the line.
(That is p much what I said about "Zari" last year and that ended up near the very very top of my rankings. We'll see!)
I'm feeling nice and talking myself into enjoying it.

points.
