The verdict of the bloggers:
Benny - Olly Alexander disappointed me because I was hoping for a better song. Nevertheless, even a mediocre Years & Years or Olly Alexander song is still great cinema and can be listened to very well. I hope for an outstanding show in Malmö.
Berenike - I really expected more. It feels like only one line is repeated at a time, so the melody quickly becomes annoying. In addition, his voice is so strangely alienated and does not have the power to stand out above the instrumental tracks, but is drowned out. Seems like a bad filler track on a Mika album to me.
Douze Points - After the initial disappointment of not getting the ultimate banger from Olly, I'm warming up to "Dizzy". I like the 80s Pet Shop Boys references and the dynamic. The voice isn't my favorite, but it fits. The song may not make me dizzy, but it does put me in a good mood.
Flo - Unfortunately, “Dizzy” leaves me quite cold. The song itself isn't bad at all, but it doesn't say anything more than “nice to hear”. Solid number for the radio and streaming playlists, but it doesn't reach me in the long term.
Manu - Olly Alexander seems to have failed because of the high demands and expectations placed on him, even though he suggested a Dua Lipa-style pop number from the start. And that's exactly what I think "Dizzy" delivers - well-produced radio pop with an extremely catchy melody. I'm also happy about the musical memories of the fabulous Pet Shop Boys. Even though I sometimes get a little confused, I like “Dizzy” for what it is and I sincerely hope that ESC entries don’t always have to be loud and flashy to get points.
Max - Before the song was released, I actually knew that I would probably like it. And so it is: “Dizzy” has everything I hoped for from Olly Alexander. I really like Olly's voice and that's why I was already a Years & Years fan. The song probably isn't incredibly competitive, but in my private life it plays on a constant loop.
Peter - Olly has already worked with Kylie, so the heroization as a “gay icon” is more than justified. When I first heard it, “Dizzy” didn't completely grab me right away, but the song clicks more and more every time and the Pet Shop Boys reminiscences in combination with Olly's unique voice with immediate memory value make the contribution an edgy and yet smooth, indulgent hit with chart potential. I also like the gentle nod to the Italopop of the late 80s.
Rick - “Dizzy” is pretty much exactly what I would otherwise consume in terms of music. The song is a bit edgy, but remains suitable for the masses. The influences of bands like the Pet Shop Boys cannot be denied and Olly is just a cool, creative artist. I also like that the number doesn't artificially build up to a dramatic climax and maintains its relaxed attitude. In order to convince Europe, however, there needs to be a staging that will be remembered, because musically the song isn't special enough. Still a great entry from the UK!
