I can't see why they are forcing this dancing thing.
It's not like it's her thing and she's great at it, so it's worth sacrificing vocals for it.
Not every female performer with mid tempo song has to dance.
Find a way to make it work without that ridiculous attempt at choreography.

There is a part of me that wonders if the choreography of the pre-parties is kind of fixed; In other words, once it has been arranged they can't make changes due to lighting and blocking and such. So if an act realises something about their performance isn't working they can't really change it on such relatively short notice. So maybe they have realised she can't do some big dance thing for the actual performance but can't do anything in the meantime.

Still, as I said earlier, there is still time to change things. If we get to a couple of days ahead of the finals and not much has changed. Well, we had best hope that any issues she is currently having are down to nerves and poor fitness after being ill because it'd be a shame for things to go badly at the finals over things that could have been nipped in the bud ahead of time.

The performance will be the same, what are the chances of performing the same choreo until mid of April and change it in the last 2 weeks

It doesn't matter how many rehearsals Mae Muller does, she is not a good singer. This was obvious to me the moment she was chosen and when I decided to watch some of her performances from gigs before. Also she doesn't come across professional, in fact I found the UK's junior eurovision entry from last year came across more professional than Mae Muller, and she was only 13 years old!
Freya Skye is performing at LEP so we can compare jk but I loved her song so much. She could have won if she wasn’t sick.

The choreography is basic AF at the pre-parties they could be working on something completely different BTS even if it means she moves less and the dancers move around her. The bigger concern is can she even sing the notes when she’s standing still? The only real jury note is that high note towards the end.

Actually I thought Brooke did change her routine for the ESC performance compared to the one she did for her pre-parties? I couldn't recall though. I am hoping likely by the ESC, they realise she can't sing without sounding breathless and will do a relatively simpler routine for her.

If not, she can always go the Blanka route and just rely on pre-recorded vocals.

If her live performance at the pre-party is any hint this will not do well. I like the song but she sounded Jemini-level-off-key. Let's hope for the best but I am not as optimistic as I was a few weeks ago.

Mae released a beautiful acoustic version of I wrote a song yesterday-I really like it, it sounds lovely! :)

Mae Muller vs Jemini mashup!!!!! Is this better than the originals?

This was a huge red flag to me when I first heard “I wrote a song”. I think it was the Spanish guitar that initially stood out to me. Never really been a fan of Mae but I hoped the song could do reasonably well.

She has a distinctive tone, but she can only really deliver a steady vocal performance when she's not excessively moving around or performing choreo (at least that's how it has seemed from the evidence so far).

Her vocal style makes it really easy for her to fall off-key with the slightest hint of poor breath control, and this isn't an acoustic song in its original form, it's a dance-pop track that will need some movement to pop on stage, so working on her stamina to avoid vocal fatigue should be her key aim in the run-up to the contest.

I hope the team are paying attention to the concerns and not being arrogant about it. They just need to check the odds to see how her live performances have dropped her right down. It’s a
Shame because I know she can do this and do well on the night.

I’ve often wondered if they get the short list of potential artists to sing live for them before making the final choice? It would be crazy not to as a decent song can very easily become terrible if they can’t translate it well on stage

I've been wondering that too and I'm dubious as to whether they got her to perform it live with some sort of choreo. I also worry about them being stubborn about making changes. Trying to remain positive but I'm struggling! The rehearsals can't come soon enough so we can get a proper idea of how this might fare!

I suppose it depends on the team around her. If its last years then I'm sure they know whats up and how to fix it etc etc. If its not then we can be only hopeful, I remember reading something from Josh Dubovie some years back who said the delegation forced him to go for a big note eventhough he couldn't hit it, and never managed to do so in a single practice run. It was gonna be a car crash anyway but it shows how important the team around the singer is. If Maes posts are anything to go by, she's fully aware of the short comings - especially as fans on social media feel so free to constantly remind her.

I'm hoping they've got something exciting planned for the staging. Mae doesn't need to be doing some super big choreo herself, especially if there is dancers around her who are on point but by all accounts shes been doing training to improve her vocals while doing choreo.

I'm sure that Muller and the people around her are keeping close tabs on everything that is being said and will make some changes ahead of the contest. We still have a month and a lot could change. Goodness, Bigger Than Us was changed slightly ahead of the finals, seemingly the day before at that. The problem of course becomes that the longer they leave it the less they can do.

So I hope that they are listening. And they are listening to the right people.

Speaking of listening, I finally had a chance to listen to one of the pre-party performances, the most recent one. And to be honest I don't quite get the panic some people are having. Though I will grant the audio quality of the version I heard wasn't the best (it was the Wiwi blogs version) so maybe people have had something better to go off of. With that said it wasn't the best, but I can put that down to her still being somewhat ill, and some of the changes being, well, weird to me.

I won't do a full review as we are kind of beyond that point but I really don't get the changes to the spoken word part. The song is already a female empowerment song so changing it to make that more apparent feels redundant. And it sounded like Muller wasn't well enough rehearsed on it, as she sounded a little unsure about the lyrics. But that can easily change. And I don't like the bit where she holds the note. It sounds too much like an attempt to pander to the judges even though it feels like a risk. And it sounded like she was forcing herself too much. However, that may be a result of her being slightly ill. Vocally as a whole, I don't think it was bad, just the whole thing felt a little messy. So I hope they can tighten things up by the finals.

I'm a bit concerned that the song won't connect with televoters. Going by social media, it's been reasonably well received but few seem to 'love' it compared with other songs in the pack, which makes me worry that people aren't going to bother voting for it.

I fully agree with you - personally, I think it screams like a Bottom 5 in televoting (even though it doesn´t deserve to finish that low) BUT... who knows... :uk: is about to perform last and thus, it may generate a few more votes.. and I really believe that juries will place it mid-table (since it´s a bop and very contemporary).

Yeah I really really hope they aren't being arrogant about it like someone said-Mae can definitely do it, and I believe she will continue to get better and better!

I wonder how she will do in Amsterdam tonight!

I mean we all know she can sing but this shuts the eurofans up who are intimidated by her presence and continually bash her for being sick at a pre party
Exactly xclap
