I've been trying hard to resist all year but I cannot any longer. I didn't want to give out any zeroes but this song... I'm left paralyzed with upset after every "let's take a look at your song Michael" moment I've had to sit through these past few months. There's other songs this year I'm not into but I can at least pinpoint a little something within them to compliment. This song is literally doing everything I don't like in its three minutes. A product of the reality tv/talent show era we're living in that I hope we can step out of soon. I think this sits next to Sweden's You as my most hated song of this Eurovision decade. I really hope something changes next year.

It sounds much better than last years, more passion in the song. I think this is better than the Swedish entry.

How wonderful is it that our 12 isn't hijacked in this final with no Poland or Lithuania diaspora. xheart Even the Irish or growing Romanian diaspora wont have an entry to vote for. We'll probably have the most true british top 10 televote in years.
No monies for BBC honey then xD

You can't say that our 12 points for Poland and Lithuania have been diaspora, when we gave 12 to Poland in 2014 and 12 to Lithuania in 2016, I also voted for them (in fact, the only countries I voted for those years). I also voted for Lithuania last night, and I'm definitely not Polish or Lithuanian diaspora lol. I did not vote for Lithuania last year but it was one of my favourites. We have not given 12 to Poland or Lithuania all the years, the years we have the Polish and Lithuanian songs were just the British favourites.

2014 semi:
Poland 12
Lithuania 10

Final:
Poland 12
(no Lithuania)

2015 semi:
Lithuania 12
(no Poland)

Final:
Lithuania 12
Poland 10

2016 semi:
Lithuania 12
Poland 10

Final:
Lithuania 12
Poland 10

2017 semi:
Poland 12
(no Lithuania)

Final
Poland 10
(no lithuania)

2018 semi:
Lithuania 12
(no Poland)

Final:
Lithuania 12
(no Poland)

Now you're telling me our hot 12 and 10 spam to those 2 each year is because the british public are so overwhelmingly obsessed with their entries? I mean yeah I guess some british people do vote for their songs, but denying the blatant diaspora is ridiculous. The only year to buck the trend is 2017 when we 12'ed Bulgaria, who also have a growing diaspora but not as big - that was probably mix of both diaspora and UK voters to give it 12 as the entry did do super well - but still 10 to Poland. I don't have a thing against either of them, in fact I like many of their entries. but I'd prefer a fair televote rank tbh.

I tend to think there's a more nationalist and political response to Eurovision in the eastern areas than elsewhere. In the UK you'll definitely have plenty people celebrating if a BBC selection they don't like does badly. I think more see it as an entertainment program than as something that reflects country allegiances, musical worth of a place or some important feeling about national pride.

If our diaspora was as fanatical at voting for the UK as some others we'd have strong televoting from Spain each year for sure, also Portugal and 1 or 2 others for a certain extent. As is, only in Ireland, Malta and now Australia do we see a real return but I guess that's more over historical and cultural ties. you're right in that it is seen as more as entertainment and we have a more blasé attitude, I guess that's reflected with how often we vote for weird and out there entries, like Moldovas on some years and also like Croatia 2017. This year more than any I'm interested to see our televoting.

Dissapointing for Michael, because he is such a nice likeable person. But nice doesn't win. We've escaped last since 2008, so I hope this result will give them the kick they need right up the arse to do actually stop messing about with these half done song writing camp damp clothes and open their eyes. I feel like we need this for them to finally see, but i'm not hopefull they will take notice.

I liked the second part when it got raw with the spare backing and the staging was better then too, that alone meant it shouldn't have been at the bottom. I didn't think it was as forgettable as some.

Time for UK to enter as separate countries and go in the semi final. Something original might transpire.

^ Undeniably similarities there. But honestly some songs just sound similar. That's just how music works! I guess we'll never know if the song was partly plagiarized, but coincidence is always a strong possibility.

I don't think the UK deserved to come last. Though I also don't think it deserved to come a whole lot higher.
I hope this will teach the BBC that it needs to make drastic changes to its selections in the future.

It unfortunately will do absolutely nothing. We've been here a gazillion times before. Those in charge know very well what they're doing and they just don't care. I will eat my hat the day we send something that could actually be classed as a contender, and I don't plan on eating fabric anytime soon.
