I think his performance has been organised move-by-move by a choreographer to try and make it look like he is a confident young man but its totally not him and doesn't look right. I think this is what you are seeing, not him being arrogant.

That could have been the case. It just didn't feel right. I really do hope that BBC will change the staging and let the boy perform the track on his own terms. He didn't really come across as confident.. somehow like a mix of arrogant and amateurish to me...which is a pity because due to his vocal performance, I see some potential here to gain some jury points and save the UK from finishing #20+

Well they said something about the staging on the BBC podcasts. They seem to have something big planned and the money in the pot for it. They won't elaborate further though on what it's going to be like. Michael described it with 1 word but they didn't say what word it was. :/ I do agree with the above comments though, the movements and choreography really wasn't all that great and looked very amateurish. It didn't look natural and more rehearsed, which is something they better work on. I'd prefer he stood on the spot and look more natural then make unnecessary gestures.

I would expect they will get out that golden tin foil from a couple of years back. But is it too late for a revamp, or to add a meaningful verse or bridge to break the repetitive monotony?

:5: points for this average radio-friendly pop tune. Another harmless track from the UK. Like Germany, the UK still hasn't figured out that one has to submit entries of high quality or tracks which are either loved or hate by people... That's another middle down the road track which won't go anywhere... it will get another 14 pts from the televoting (if the UK is lucky) and like with Molly.. people will pretend to be shocked how unfair Eurovision is...

Seriously, no one will vote for average tracks in Eurovision. After Germany 2015-2017, I thought that public broadcaster would have understood the message... a pity that BBC has no clue what to do.

Whilst Michael Rice's voice is powerful, I think that he kinda comes across as a bit arrogant on stage, no? - Don't think it's a plus...

Though it's also a matter of opinion as to what average is, maybe the really bad that stands out sometimes wins as well (last year for instance). I'm sure many would say songs like Running Scared and Only Teardrops (for example) are very average songs.

And even if people think the Swedish singer is better I still think his song isn't up to much.

Maybe staging and performance are actually more important than the song in Eurovision anyway. And there's no way the BBC will put much money into staging, they get the ratings they are happy.

Listen this than Greece back to back. Sounds like X-Factor winner and runner-up announcing their songs at finals night  Micheal would be a perfect winner there :p

Omg now that I think of it: Croatia could totally be a fitting 3rd at that same show, I think these people signed up for the wrong contest XD

Still :0: next year drop BBC

Does this mean we'll be seeing not just one, but two unnecessary drummers this year? xheat

He said in a video it's going to be super big and epic. BBC loves to be as vague as humanly possible. All we know for sure is there are 4 female backing vocalists and 1 male, and who 2 of the female vocalists are.

they *should* be saving their money to put a barricade around the stage for their performance

Most people in the UK couldn't give a shit. And very few care where it finishes either, which I don't think most people on Eurovision forums ever really understand. It's not as much a flag waving thing as you find in some other places. It's an entertainment show to most people.

Definitely a great performance, I noticed possible epic teasers coming from that xshrug

I honestly think this will do much better than people think would do tbh

Michael's Eurovision in Concert performance was a surprisingly great surprise. Much better than his performance at National Selection.
It's not my favourite song of the year, I still feel that its a bit "fake motivational." Having said that, will be looking forward to on the night!

Could see the UK finishing on the left which would be nice! I think he'll do well with the jury vote. Perhaps even with the televote, if he can ace the staging and performance!
