Apparantly she's a bad live singer...

I doubt it'll be a ballad, the interview on the BBC site today goes on about how its important to hit people from the first few bars etc, and it underlines 'pop' a lot, so I'd be very surprised if it isn't uptempo.

Also I don't think it's been mentioned here yet but he'll be getting the Stock part of SAW involved in the song as well!

Today, on the BBC Eurovision Twitter page, it was confirmed that Mike Stock would be a co-writer to the United Kingdom Eurovision entry for 2010. It was previously announced by the BBC that Pete Waterman would be writing the UK song this year, and this announcement will reunite one of the key combinations in UK songwriting history.
Mike Stock became a household name in the 1980’s for being a part of the Stock Aitken Waterman songwriting and producing trio, and has written songs for Cliff Richard, Bananarama, Robson and Jerome and Kylie Minogue.

Speaking about Mike to the BBC, Pete Waterman said the following: “We haven't worked together recently, but we've remained friends and there was no question that I would be willing as long as he was prepared to do it with me. Mike is the musician and he interprets my ideas – a trouble shared is a trouble halved, as they say.”

Other news has been released by the BBC about the UK Eurovision selection. It has been announced officially that the UK final will take place over one night and will contain 6 acts. The expert panel in the studio will whittle this down to 3 before they sing the Stock/Waterman written Eurovision entry where the viewers will decide who to send to Oslo. In addition it has been revealed that Alexander Rybak and Jade Ewen, who is now singing with the Sugababes, will be performing at the UK Final.

Hmm, I'm beginning to think this is another Making Your Mind Up kinda thing. Bad, unsigned/has been singers + cheesy, unlikeable pop song = bad result.

For the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, the BBC has chosen Pete Waterman as the song writer for the United Kingdom entry in Oslo, Norway.
In an interview with the BBC, Waterman outlines his approach in writing the UK entry for Eurovision. "It's hard enough writing a hit song in the first place, let alone a Eurovision winner. You need to come up with something simple and catchy, people think it's easy but it's not."

Waterman has 200 hits to his name, including 22 No.1's. "When the BBC called to ask if I would do it, I had two questions," he says. "The first was to ensure that I had a free hand musically and the second was to ask my old partner Mike Stock to help me. We haven't worked together recently, but we've remained friends and there was no question that I would be willing as long as he was prepared to do it with me. Mike is the musician and he interprets my ideas – a trouble shared is a trouble halved, as they say."

Pete and Mike have been spending recent times busy coming up with the perfect song. "We know it needs to work as part of a television spectacular, it must be dynamic and hit everyone in the first few bars, and we know it has to last less than three minutes," he says. "You have to have a formula; it will have to have an intro, at least two verses, a bridge and a chorus, nothing superfluous."

When asked about recent patterns on what makes a Eurovision winner? Pete says "I haven't thought about it like that. When I think of Eurovision I go back to the black and white years with Katie Boyle and the Eurovision logo, which was great. I loved Sandie Shaw's Puppet On A String, but you can't write songs like that any more. The audience today is highly educated and sophisticated and if you wrote Boom Bang A Bang or whatever they'd throw their arms up in the air."

In recent years the UK has been struggling in the Eurovision Song Contest final, except in 2009 when Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber penned the United Kingdom entry. Pete gives his opinion on why the UK has faired badly in recent years: "I think it's because, for a long time, top songwriters didn't want to do it," he says. "Last year Andrew Lloyd Webber broke the mould really as the first real writer to put himself in the firing line. Going back as far as Bill [Martin] and Phil [Coulter] writing Congratulations for Cliff Richard in 1968, you haven't really had established writers and, even when the UK last won in 1997, the record wasn't British – it was Katrina And The Waves. We've put some pretty strange songs out there in recent years, I think we've tried to be too trendy – it's about getting a great song."

NF has (finally) been confirmed to take place on March 5th (next week) from 21.30 - 23.00 CET(20.30 - 22.00 local time). Acts probably won't be announced until next week, if all. There won't be a live stream (the one at BBC site only works for those in UK) but it is avaliable for Swiss viewers from Zattoo. It'll be staged in the BBC Television Centre's 1st studio.

As for live streaming. I hope there will be "unofficial" stream like last year.

I like the new website design. They usually re-change it again between March - May to add the UK Entry to the design.

I'm really excited about this, but they had to be one of the last to choose... talk about suspense!

I like a good cheesy pop song so I'm really excited about this!

OMG they have an Esma too
Our Esma is better!!

All of them are unknown. :| And there is a band called Miss Fitz?? For a moment I thought it was Miss Fritzl. Following last year success, I expect another good entry from United Kingdom. Hopefully, most of the songs will be uptempo this time. :) A good ballad like last year would do the trick as well.

oh, I know Miss Fitz... not my faves though.
Here's their video from the X-Factor auditions:

not bad but not something special imo. I dunno for some weird reason I'm not pessimistic about British selection this year :) Though I'm wondering about the song.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM - United Kingdom 2010

well we know the song is obviously Uptempo. Waterman pretty much only writes up-tempos. I hope the song is good :/ be a shame to waste ALW's work on a jemini type song

It will definatly be uptempo with that lineup. I am kind of worried it could be crap. But we will wait and see.
