I practically say this every year : They really have NO good male acts that would be interested in ESC, it's sad but true. On the other hand alot of great and popular female acts have been and are interested in the contest so naturally they were the best picks.
The more or less good Ukrainian male acts are mostly rock bands like Okean Elzy, Druha Rika, Antytila, Tartak, Vopli Vidopliassova and Mad Heads XL (to name some) and I'm pretty sure none of them have any interest in Eurovision unfortunately...
The only good male act I could think of interested in ESC would be Maks Barskih, but with the current juries who more or less only care about vocal delivery and not about songs, there might be an issue because he is not particularly a very strong live singer.
I think he would be perfect.
Then there's Ivan Dorn. Also Max, as you mentioned. Monatik wrote the best song of Loboda's career, but I haven't been impressed with his own output. The Maneken have some nice tracks but I'm not sure they're "mainstream" enough. Vremia i Steklo is a MF duo. Are Dantes and Oleynik still performing together? I generally agree with you but there are now a number of younger male singers with a lot of potential.
That song is a nice cover, but I saw his live singing and it was awful to say the least and again with how juries are functioning in ESC they would punish an entry (regardless of how great the song would be) if the live singing isn't cliché Disney or conventionally stable (but boring) in general.
Yes, there's duos of course consisting of men like Potap & Nastya and Vremia & Steklo, I was referring to solo male acts.
The others you mentioned I dunno who they are.
Hadn't thought of them. They actually would be a great act for Eurovision.Yes, there's duos of course consisting of men like Potap & Nastya and Vremia & Steklo, I was referring to solo male acts.

there's first time for everythingHas rap ever done well at ESC? Besides, Potap only raps in Russian (as far as I know) and there is no way Ukraine sends anything in Russian any time soon.
I agree with the 'first time for everything' sentiment - I don't think it's impossible for rap to do well at Eurovision. It certainly faces a few more barriers, and I'm not sure we'll see a rap song winning any time soon, but high places should be entirely possible. Poland 2014, while not rap, managed to be one of the first highly-placing hip-hop songs in the contest, and the genres are at least similar. On top of that, Belgium and Latvia's respectable finishes this year do seem to be a sign that Eurovision is gradually opening up to less conventional sounds.
Another reason behind the lackluster results of rap at the contest is, I think, that we just haven't had many good ones. As much as I enjoyed Montenegro's Igranka in 2013, it didn't exactly have mass appeal, and the staging was certainly unusual. Apart from that, what rap songs have even had a chance to be performed at the contest in recent years? Woki Mit Deim Popo, perhaps? The point is, I think we'd naturally start getting higher scores from rap songs if we got more of them, and better ones.

what a voice! She sounds very American for being an Ukrainain. Would be something totally different from Ukraine, but a good choice
Thé Gaitana of 2012?
How about the things about Ukraine? Did they confirm participation or are they likely to participate?
NTU officially confirmed participation
