They also revealed that the day after the 2014 contest that a Big 5 country had already withdrawn from ESC 2015... That country was sadly missed in Vienna.. oh wait... haha

I never heard about it. Where did you read it from?

on their site, I was talking about how unreliable they are today and I brought it up then too. The article is entitled: teaser: four countries furiously withdraw

xfacepalm

It doesn't surprise me even a bit. Time to time I read articles on news websites in Turkey which say "Turkey doesn't buckle under for Eurovision to EBU" or "Turkey stands for fair voting" which sound way too stupid when you check how Turkey voted in the past. Neighbour voting is a problem? Maybe. But is Turkey the right country to complain about it? Not even close.

All TRT knows to do is hoodwinking the public by making an impression such as "We have political domination over Europe!" and that's the point from the start by withdrawing from the contest by saying "We don't like the system and we want it to change" anyway. And do you know what is the most pathetic part? Government supporters actually take the bait.

That's just an excuse. TRT does not want to participate because they don't want to broadcast women with mini skirts, bearded "freaks" (JK, Conchita is my queen and saviour), same-sex kissing, drag queens... Turkey is politically not in the same page with EU anymore, the government (so as TRT, the channel of the government) try to be the leader of the Middle East, Western world is seen as immoral blah blah blah...
Damn it, you turned our lives into hell, at least bring our favourite show back.

Hello, all.

This is my first post in this forum.

I noticed this thread and started reading it from the beginning; and I was surprised that no one had written stuff like the above. So I was almost getting ready to write something similar. But anyway, finally on page 15, I saw what Nikkita wrote; and so I don't need to write something similar, because I agree with Nikkita 100 percent. I sadly think those are the exact reasons of TRT's non-participation.

Will things change in the near future ? Of course it is possible, but I give it like only 20 percent chance or so.

AKP, the ruling government of Turkey, has been showing its true colors, in various platforms and ways, in recent years, especially since 3-4 years ago. Just 1 more example : Istanbul has been holding a Pride walk every summer since several years ago. It had passed peacefully and colorfully every year, up until last summer. Last summer, police attacked and broke up the Pride Walk for no reason (and to make matters worse, some fascists attacked the participants too). Teargas was used too against the participants. So, sadly, I think we might not even see any more peaceful Pride walk in Istanbul. It might even be banned from this year on :(

I think worse is to come for Turkey. I mean, for non-AKP people of course.

Sorry that my first post was a pessimistic and negative post. Hopefully, my later posts will be nice and fun ones about the contest itself.

Oh and by the way, a few posters have written stuff like 'I don't feel bad about TRT's decision. Turkey's values now are very different from European values'. I see their point, but they shouldn't forget that Turkey has a big population and that there are millions of Turkish citizens who despise everything that AKP represents.

Very well thought out response and it all makes perfect sense. It's unfortunate but as you pointed out, I have a lot of Turkish friend and they certainly do not agree with what's going on in turkey. I'm still hopeful that things are going to change in the future.
