Re: THE BIG TOURNAMENT 1956 - 2011 - VOTE NOW!
I like a stat, me. So I thought I'd have a little play with the list of qualifiers. Have a bar graph (I am aware that I screwed up with my labelling).
This shows the percentage of entries each country has got through to the second round. This measure gives some odd results - for example, Morocco gets 100% through, by virtue of only having one entry. Of those that have had a large number of entries, Slovenia must get a special mention, with more than half their 17 entries through. UK also did very well, with 46% of their 54 entries making the grade. That is especially impressive when you consider how far back in time those entries stretch. The more recent entries have done much better as this pie chart shows.
More than half the qualifiers are from this century. Perhaps some of this can be due to a greater number of entries per year, but I can't be bothered to weight the results by this factor. There's still a big correlation there between qualification and recency.
