It's ridiculous, isn't it. Having said that, I feel like Finland's been trying to make me gay with Isaac Sene's and Benjamin's UMK entries in 2022 and 2023.Im assuming traditional values = family consisting of husband, wife and yes, 2-3 children. And he clearly sees the contest as a threat to that when participants like say Conchita Wurst or, in this case, Nemo shows up. The way he talks about it (at least from the norwegian article I read on this), its almost like the mindset is that "If you watch people from the LGBTQIA+ community on the biggest stage in the world, straight people will suddenly turn gay or change their gender or gender identity". Which is just a really stupid and bizarre mindset to me. I have watched this contest since I was 7-8 years old (my earliest memory is from 2005 for reference), and as far as I know at least, it hasn't "turned me gay" but it has definitely taught me how important it is to be an ally. And even if watching Eurovision theoretically had me realize that I am also a part of the rainbow-family in some way, then that would have been fine too because it would have been a part of me all along anyway. And just because Eurovision has for the longest time been a stage where people from this community have been given a stage where they can express and be proud of who they are, it doesn't mean that it automatically excludes the traditional family values or heck, straight couples. Including something doesn't automatically mean something else is excluded for good. Both can thrive with mutual respect and understanding. At least that's how I like to think on it.
(sorry for this messy message btw, English is not my first language and I haven't slept in 24 hours)
Same, Turkey had so many great entries. Some of my most favorite ESC-songs come from Türkiye. "Deli" and "We could be the same" are fantastic - I still listen to these today!
This is not exactly a sign that Türkiye will be back in Eurovision in the near future ...
No points from Erdogan. Turkey's leader claims Eurovision Song Contest is a threat to family values
The Turkish president has criticized the Eurovision Song Contest, accusing the annual event of allegedly encouraging “gender neutralization” and threatening the traditional familyabcnews.go.com
I think turkey will only return if it goes back to a one night show. 40 countries over two weeks taking part is too much. Sir Terry called it “killing the contest stone dead” and 2024 just proved that.
How did you manage to look at all the problems 2024 had and blame them on semi finals exactly?Turkey did something special in 2004. They were the first country to host Eurovision after the expansion.

Turkey may return if it’s a smaller contest and men in dresses (like Erdogan stated) don’t take part.

Ira would have won in 2002 if Portugal didn’t withdraw. Bringing the east ruined the contest for years! Hence the juries which now ruin they whow. When they tried to reduce the number of participating countries - by only letting countries through if they had done well the previous year -, it wasn't a success. And I still think it would kill the popularity of Eurovision if some countries were not represented at all.
