So, aside from Fuego & Eleni comparisons, we also recycle comments people posted about her last year?
"Eleni can't sing she soooo bad live", "it will so flop", "pls when did Cyprus ever do good". This is a party song in a funeralish year. No chance it will get bottom 5.
Luca isn't Eleni though? Where did I say that? Right after the reveal I compared the songs with each other, before I took the time to process the song or think about other comparisons.
She Got Me tries to capitalize on Fuego's successes, much like Re►, but it is significantly trashier and cheaper. Re►, for all its polish and care, can be seen as a serious attempt at least.
As for your argument which implies that Eleni's vocals didn't matter, I actually agree with you! Now If you have 10 mins, bear with me on what I actually *think* about the supposed
Fuegoness of it all.
These pretenders have forgotten why Cyprus finished second last year. It wasn't because of
Fuego.
Fuego is generic eurodance, it's lightweight convenience pop and nothing more. There has always been a market for that at Eurovision and thank fuck there is, otherwise we would see low-to-midtempo pretentious avant garde ballads with Deep, Socially Relevant Meanings all the time, which is just as detrimental to the contest as supposed "FastFood Music" is, if not more.
But I digress
No, it was
Eleni who made Fuego shine. She kicked so much fucking ass that she was able to overcome spiteful Greek contempt and sashay her way to second place in spite of her so-called awful voice (she had some bum notes, what of it?
Nobody listens to Fuego for the vocals). If you really want to capitalize on mediterranean uptempo dance or reggaeton, aspire to be like
her, not her song. It is clear Cyprus got the message because they recruited Tamta, a proven performer. Switz... I'm not so certain about.
Being a 'good performer' is so much more than having good vocals and looking pretty, you know.
Now, for the bloody record: I personally don't give a hoot about Re►; It's not my thing and I find that the professional care it's been given makes it
less good, paradoxically enough. It's borderline
robotic almost. I prefer organic, credible songs that expose the performer's quirks, personality and vulnerabilities, which is why I prefer Luca's economy alternative ever so slightly. There's a much higher chance I'll connect with him than I will with Tamta.
But don't get your hopes up that he'll do well. He won't. Being Swiss and kind of a tool will ensure that he won't. but don't worry. If he flops, I won't be acting smug. I will be there to empathize with you. All I can ask you is that you do the same with me if I'm proven wrong.
and remember:
