Re: SWITZERLAND 2016

Dissapointing replacement...........Doesn't really make a difference though. ;)

Rykka is my top favourite by far, the song, performance, stage presence and artistic value just makes the other song look a bit amateuristic.
If :ch: does not choose her, they could make the same blunder as last year by choosing Melanie over Timebelle.

I mean yeah. Quality of song over quality of performance anytime. This is how it should be. But it's not followed that often. You can fix a bad performance but you can't really fix a mediocre song. And you can't really make a mediocre song shine by even a flawless performance. So I feel like judging the contestants' "abilities" by 1-2 performances shouldn't be such a big factor in deciding who gets to go to Eurovision since usually they'll have a lot of time to prepare for it after they win. But I suppose people just sort of get blinded by a nice performance sometimes as well. It essentially always comes down to the song in the end, though. And that's what's kind of bothered me about the Swiss selections.. The song's most important, guise..!!

Looking through the contenders, :ch: HAVE to choose Rykka if they want any sort of success in Stockholm...

Hmmm, I don't fully agree. I think that some mediocre songs can actually be saved with decent staging and a good performance, while great songs can also be destroyed if they are sung live. I think :az: has proven that the last 2 years. The studio version of both were extreme good musically and were hauntingly beautiful. Both live performances fell completely flat for me. Some performances can be improved, but if the live version has no potential of ever coming close to the studio version, no matter how much time they have to prepare, then I guess its understandable to reject it, no matter how good the song is. ;)

For Rykka, I'm predicting a landslide victory, partly because the lack of competition. Her stage presence may need some work, but her vocal abilities are pitch perfect. I even felt she held back because she seemed a little nervous. The only factor that could prevent her from winning is that the swiss could think this could be a second "Time to Shine" and purpusly vote for something different, but I would doubt they see past this type of quality .....

Rykka is so much ahead of these amateur artists here :? I really hope she wins because she is definitely worthy of ESC final...

I'm really interested in seeing what Rykka's stage presentation will be like

Unfortunately, this will be the first year in ages that I won't be supporting :ch:
The only worthy song is "The last of our kind" and I'm not too pleased either. I'm afraid qualifying will be even more difficult than usually for Switzerland this year, and now it will be deserved :(

Re: SWITZERLAND 2016

OK, so I actually feel that I can get behind about five of the songs here... Clear favourite has to be "Another World", but if Switzerland pick anything but Gross, then I can live with it. Not listened to the full selection from the semi mind, so I have no idea if they eliminated something amazing before the final. Kalceo's video was bonkers and I am completely unsure what's going on, but it was good fun anyway!

Re: SWITZERLAND 2016

I've noticed recently that Betfair has posted odds on various national finals, and they've got Rykka down as the favorite in Switzerland. The only reason Vincent is leading polls on several sites like Wiwi and ESCIreland is because some of his fans have started campaigns on Twitter to get people to vote for him (I saw a lot of them when browsing the #srfesc tag one day) - at one point in the Wiwi poll Rykka was leading with about double or triple the votes of Vincent

I've listened to all the songs and I have to agree with many over here that Rykka is by far the best thing that could happen to Switzerland. It's unique, still memorable and fascinates you from minute one. Only concern here is the staging: it kind of needs something very unique like Latvia last year. If they come up with something nearly as spectacular as that, Rykka would be among the favourites in May- quite sure about that. If they don't stage it right, the whole thing could me messed up.

My order for the Swiss National Final:
1. Rykka
2. Vincent Gross (please change the backings in the chorus, if they do, this could be good)

Now the quality drops massively...

3. Theo (I don't like his live abilities, it seems like quite a mess. Also, I don't like the background singers)
4. Bella C (too boring for me. Reminds me of James Bond songs. Don't make the same mistake like we did last year with Ann Sophie :D)
5. Stanley Miller - just no.
6. Kaceo - good lord, please no.

Good luck from your neighbor in Germany xheart

I have a Canadian flag and a Swiss flag, if Rykka is chosen then I'll get to wave them both xacademic:ca::ch:

Rykka really should have this NF in the bag unless something drastic happens

Re: SWITZERLAND 2016

The other things she needs is a good spot in the running order and to slay her cover song choice. She would be the first Canadian-born artist to represent Switzerland since Annie Cotton in 1993, and the first to perform a song in English since both Celine and Annie sang in French

Strange choice of cover song from Bella. The best thing about "Another World" is the melodramatic wailing, and not putting that at the forefront of her campaign by picking a restrained piano ballad is...risky.

Re: SWITZERLAND 2016

Rykka could be really amazing.. if they did the Aminata-style echo thing that was done last year, she could easily be one of my favourites. I think it would work well with her voice.

I don't understand why they still do the covers thing. It doesn't make sense in a song contest.

I can't wait to see what they do for her staging. Reaction to her song from people across Europe (and even in Canada) has been mostly positive, so I am keeping my fingers crossed
