Tonight: Spain chooses a song for Pastora

The day has come when one of the three songs that Pastora Soler performs in the Spanish final will be chosen as her entry for Baku. Will it be Ahora O Nunca, Tu Vida Es Tu Vida or Quedate Conmigo? A three-member jury and the televote will have the final say tonight from 22:20 CET.

In late December the popular singer Pastora Soler, from Seville, was chosen internally as the singer that will represent Spain at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.

Tonight a show called Eurovisión. Pastora Soler, to determine what song she will perform in Baku, will take place at the TVE studios in Madrid hosted by Anne Igartiburu, who also did the presentation the last couple of years.

Earlier this week, Spanish Television TVE, revealed the names of the three members of the jury who will account for 50% of the final result. They are the singer Sole Giménez, who was a member of the Spanish jury already last year, Venezuelan singer/songwriter Franco de Vita and the music producer Óscar Gómez from Cuba.

The songs they have to judge, along with the viewing public at home are:

Quédate Conmigo (Stay With Me) written by Thomas G:son, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson & Erik Bernholm
Tu Vida Es Tu Vida (Your life Is Your Life) written by Max Miona, Eleonora Giudizi & Juan María Montes
Ahora O Nunca (Now Or Never) written by José Abraham

The most voted song from the public, by phone calls and SMS, will receive a total of 36 points, the second 30 points, and the least voted will get 24 points. Also, each of the three jurors award the three songs with 12, 10 and 8 points in order of preference. All the points are added to get the final result. In case of a tie, the public vote prevails.

Featured in the show will be Spanish entrant at the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest Sergio Dalma, David Bustamante who was one of the backing singers for Rosa in Tallin in 2002, the popular singer Malú and the singer/songwriter Vanessa Martin. All of them will duet with the star of the night, Pastora Soler.

The winning song will be performed at the Final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku on the 26th of May following the footsteps of last year's Spanish entry Que Me Quiten Lo Bailao sung by Lucía Pérez.

"Quédate Conmigo" is what Spain needs now. But I would be happy if they choose "Ahora O Nunca" too.

Actually my thoughts! I have a personal preference to "Ahora O Nunca", but "Quédate Conmigo" is amazing too, so I'll be happy if any of these two win!

I like both Quedate conmigo and Tu vida es tu vida but I think the right choice for Spain would be Quedate conmigo. I can only imagine how impressive it must sound like live.
Ahora o nunca is nice but not memorable enough.

There's a problem with "Tu vida es tu vida". "Que me quiten lo bailao" is a similar latin pop song and did almost nothing last year (#23). Spain is flopping hard because it's using the same formula over and over again. Those kind of songs don't work anymore in ESC, at least for now. People need to understand that, specially Spanish people.

"Quédate Conmigo" is the best choice. It's a power ballad, it's different. That's what Spain needs now.

That's right, TVETV has nothing to do with QMQLB. QMQLB was about having fun, celebrating life and going ahead no matter what happens. TVETV has deeper and touching lyrics as well as another totally different kind of music... but it has been done and heard before in ESC, sounds very typical.

Anyway, I think QM must be chosen tonight for three reasons: it's a VERY GOOD ballad indeed, the more I listen to it the more I like it; she will be able to bring a powerful vocal performance; AND it's different from the rest of the songs this year so far.
