2nd or 3rd or 24th makes no difference.

Of course it makes! Coming 2nd or 3rd among 40+ countries isn't much for you? xshrug

2nd or 3rd or 24th makes no difference. You either win or you don't. If you want to win, you sing in English, simple as that. Molitva was the exception, not the rule.
I disagree with that. Maybe it is more relevant to come 1st and not 2nd than the question if you end up 2nd or 4th but in general the results have an impact on the contest's whole reputation. Viewers will be satisfied when their favourite or own country achieves a Top 10 or Top 5 but are quite likely to moan about a last place (especially in case of consecutive runs).
Apart from that, my point was rather to show that it is equally possible to win with non-English songs. And 2nd and 3rd places indeed prove this.

If i was british, maybe i would agree, that being last in 2010 is the same as being 5th in 2009.
But i am greek and i can asure you that i am so satisfied that my country is the only country in Europe that manage top10 from 2004.

Language is not that important at all. People don't pay much attention to lyrics in ESC. It's a first listening after all and viewers have enough with music, visual performance and voice + even if it's your mother language, it's so difficult to catch the lyrics after only one listening ;)

I think the debate is more about the 'familiar sound' of the English language. Of course most times the content is totally unimportant or would be even a reason to write in a language that no one understands.

I want a powerfull epical ballad with spanish reminiscences, the voice of Pastora and her live performance are incredibles, now we only need a good song to do something interesting this year. I think that TVE did great when they chose Pastora.

One of the posible composer would be David De María, we can see him singin alongside Pastora in this Christmas commercial of the Andalusian national broadcaster two years ago with a light flamenco touch, would be great something like this for ESC:

I saw Pastora Soler yesterday on a spanish TV Broadcast from Andalucia. Her voice is very nice and great and the song she performed was quite nice (I'm curious how her ESC entry will sound like), but I must add that she isn't very sympathic... At least for me.

Yes its true the 2012 Spanish Eurovision representative Pastora Soler joined forces with former Spanish Eurovision representative Sergio Dalma in order to sing together an all time Italian hit in Spanish version Yo No Te Pido La Luna. The Spanish artists performed together last Saturday during a special Christmas Eve Show celebrating Sergio Dalma's latest album Via Dalma. The show was aired on TVE 1 and many famous and well acclaimed artists graced the occasion too: Umberto Tozzi (Italy 1987), Laura Pausini, Chenoa and Diana Navarro.

Eurovision fans will be familiar with Sergio Dalma, as he had the honour of representing Spain at the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest in Rome, thus achieving a 4th placing with the evergreen and all time hit Bailar Pegados. Sergio has come a long way since his Eurovision experience 20 years ago. Today he is among Spain's most sought after singers enjoying fame, recognition and popularity both in Spain and Latin America.

He has recently released his latest album titled Via Dalma 2, a sequel to Via Dalma. Both albums have been produced and recorded in Italy featuring all time Italian hit songs sung in Spanish.

Last Saturday Spanish national broadcaster TVE aired a special show celebrating Sergio's latest album Via Dalma 2, where the 2012 Spanish Eurovision representative Pastora Soler was invited to perform one of the songs in duet with Sergio Dalma. The 2 Spanish Eurovision representatives treated the public to Yo No Te Pido La Luna ( I Am Not Asking You For The Moon).

Another former Eurovision artist was also invited to the show, none other than Umberto Tozzi who was invited to sing his own song Tu with Sergio Dalma. Umberto Tozzi represented Italy at 1987 Eurovision Song Contest in Brussels with the song Gente di Mare (People of the Sea), achieving an honorable 3rd placing. Chenoa who is among Spain's most sought after female artists and was a backing vocalist to Rosa at the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest, also graced the ocassion singing with Sergio another all time Italian classic Te Amo (I Love You).

For a moment this morning i was worried it was the eurovision song (i wasn't fully awake lol)

He is kind of an average singer!

She is nice but i think it would best to have a ballad with spanish accents for her.

Guys any news about what kind of song they want to send? I saw there was a voting. People were ranking the songs in her latest album. But I also read she wants to sing a pop/dance song. I hope that's NOT true! Just give us any info!
