Slovakia returning would be a dream come true for me. I definitely understand their discouragement because of their results, but lots of things have changed in the past decade. The countries that regularly did horribly started getting much promising results, and some "definitely a qualifier" countries started to fail on a more frequent basis. I voted for their last entry in 2012, unaware of the fact that it would be the "last" both for them and for us.

Well, she sounded like a dying goat on stage. xshrug

We had qualifiers that sounded the same and with much worse songs xshrug

She wasn't great live that's true, song is still a masterpiece though (and tbh it was more the backing singer that messed it up imho, Kristina herself is just a weak singer but on similar level as let's say Kalomoira that came like what, top. 3?, in that edition.

I hated Kalomoira as well, still not convinced about :sk: 2010 though.

I didn't hate Kalomoira personally, fun and stupid, much an entry of its time. I just meant that we've had bunch of weak vocalists or even directly awful ones (like Bejba!) that qualified (even with juries). I think Kristina's main issue wasn't her kind of weak vocals (I'd say weak rather than bad), more that she seemed to lack self confidence in selling the song.

Anyways, time has past but it's still a classic for me personally, I listen to the studio version every now and then and still my #1 Eurovision entry of all time (in studio version). I might be alone on that but hey ho, taste differs :)

I'd be happy to see them back in 2025, however we'll see. I'll take it with a grain of salt and also the upcoming elections might have an effect as it looks like it might head into a Hungary direction and not sure if a Slovak broadcaster under such conditions will consider re-joining Eurovision or rather isolate the country from Europe instead, only time will tell.

Slovakia is still missed. Czechia is doing good effort to make them relevant in ESC but they aren't the same as the good old Slovakia. The legacy Slovakian artists left in the 90s and in the modern years before they left will never be forgotten.

In June, they changed the funding, abolishing the fees and tying the budget to GDP instead. It was agreed it would be 0.17% of GDP, significantly increasing the funds compared to previous years. That's why the broadcaster was optimistic about returning to ESC in 2025, I guess.
In December, the new government cut it down to 0.12% of GDP, decreasing the budget by 55M €. Last month, the new government came with a proposal to reform the public broadcaster - basically the composition of the council and the way of its election are to be changed, as well as the election of the Director, who could be dismissed without giving any reason. A new body, the Programme Council, is also to be created, with the power to control broadcasting and to intervene in news and other broadcasts. It's a first step in turning RTVS into state broadcaster, so they can have direct political control over it and spew their propaganda. They are not coming back anytime soon.
