Re: SLOVENSKO - Slovakia 2011

Martin Kontúr from STV’s press team:

We’re expecting an announcement (about further details) in the next few days, probably at the beginning of next week, but for now all I can official say is that Slovakia will definitely take part in Eurovision 2011.”

Meanwhile, an article published today on aktualne.sk has said that participation in this year’s competition will cost in the region of €125.000, and hints that negotiations will continue with potential sponsors to finance both the national selection and participation. Other sources have claimed that Slovakia would have faced a fine if they chose to withdraw again, and so decided to enter, although these have yet to be verified. Broadcaster STV has been rolled into a new company called RTVS, merging the Slovak national television and radio companies as part of cost-cutting measures.

Certainly a fine would be less than that right?

Afterall what did Azerbaijan get after all they did in 2009? like €5000 or something like that?

Anyway, I'm happy Slovakia are in though :)

I really liked their national selections, but I doubt they'll have time to arrange it for this year though.

Do you mean Georgia?

No Azerbaijan with this whole Armenia thing and police interrogations and all crazy-ness that was going on.

I think they got some very tiny fine after all that, not at all in proportion to what was happening though, just symbolic.

So I guess a fine for late withdrawal can't be that big then?

Did Georgia really get a fine btw? I don't remember they did.

There is a difference though between what Azerbaijan did vs withdrawal.
I don't know if there is an additional fee on top of the original fee when withdrawing from the contest though.

It makes sense for Slovakia to participate since they already had to spend all that money which they won't get back. They should just go with an internal selection and hope for the best.

Georgia's withdrawal was a totally different animal cause they wanted to make a political statement and pretty much knew they would get disqualified but felt they got the message across.

Surely there's a difference, the Azeri thing would normally even lead to a banning of up to 3 years if EBU actually followed their own rules and regulations, so that was in a whole other league, but I just pointed out that if such a thing could give a minor fine, then I couldn't see withdrawals getting too much of a fine either.

Aha so they already PAID their fee then? Well then offcourse it's no use to withdraw obviously. Internal selection would be to prefer in this short period of time, I do hope they can come up with something good though.

I think Georgia got their reasons to be honest, but still it was EBU who didn't accept their entry, so I can't really remember they got a fine? But maybe they did.

Well thanks for clearing out the Slovakia case.

Something like this maybe? This is a beautiful Slovakian song:

I still hope we'll hear that beautiful language in Eurovision.

I agree with the whole Azerbaijan situation and Georgia's song was disqualified but they could have sent another entry instead but chose to withdraw instead.

The only additional costs Slovakia has to face now are the hotel costs, travel expenses etc (I believe) not sure how significant of an investment that is.

The last song is amazing. Jana Kirschner would be perfect for ESC.

According to STV officilas: "Probably there will be internal choice, though the terms and conditions of the selection hasn't been decided yet".

Re: SLOVENSKO - Slovakia 2011

this doesn't come as a surprise but as per eurovision.tv

This year, the national public broadcaster RTVS is trying a different approach: An expert jury will choose the representative for Düsseldorf internally. The result and, thus, the lucky artist who will get to represent Slovakia in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, will be announced on February 18th.

The jury will be formed on Feb 4, so they have 2 weeks.
Also even despite financial problems they will broadcast 2 ESC semis and the final.

Re: SLOVENSKO - Slovakia 2011

Hmm I really wonder who they'll chose.

I also wonder if they will in desperation send a song in English or if they will stick to Slovakian. I hope they'll send an entry in Slovakian language as it is really beautiful, they shouldn't change to "please" juries/public who obviously doesn't care about them anyway.

Poor Slovakia, so amazing entries yet so overlooked constantly :(

Have they changed their name to Turkey or Greece they would have managed to be in the final for the past two years without a doubt.

Good luck though and please stick to Slovakian, do not sell out only cause of bad luck.

Mista is one of 3 potential entries chosen by the broadcaster.

This is her ESC song:

She could be a good choice!

Is that the entry she would compete with if chosen!?

Who are the other choices?

Re: SLOVENSKO - Slovakia 2011

Last year the winner of national final, had 12 from televoting and 10 from jury (22 points)
Mista had 12 from jury and 10 points from televoters=22 points.
But Horehronie won.So i think its fair for Mista to represent this year Slovakia.
But not with this song :? its awful.
Last year, she had a beautiful song

I didn't like Mista at all last year, I'm still surprised the juries chose it over the BEAUTIFUL Horehronie.

To be honest though, Slovakia fails even if they send great entries, so I'm not surprised if they send something crappy this time around, they figured no one cares anyways. Sad but true.

They eventually wanted to drop out even, so I'm not surprised.

It's sad because they send such brilliant entries (imo) to Eurovision on almost each try, and everytime been overlooked by both juries (professionals??? lol) and voters.

Re: SLOVENSKO - Slovakia 2011

The problem with Slovakia last year is that Horehronie got lost amongst the other songs. The presentation was very, very weak and the vocals were not strong. The energy of the song from the studio version and the NF did not translate to ESC which was unfortunate. Things like this do count when it comes down to the public sending in a vote. Obviously she didn't convince the juries either and I'm not that surprised.

Well, the juries preferred more unoriginal and dated stuff, and if we're talking bad performances, why did the juries like for instance Hadise in 2009? And there are more examples...

Also people tend to forget that Slovakia has a longer history in Eurovision than just Horehronie and their other '00 entry, on each try they failed.

2009 was a difficult entry, but it had great vocals and the public reacted nicely to it in the arena, and what did the "professionals" in the jury do about that one? You know, the ones that were busy handing out wild-cards to stuff like the dated Eurodance entry from Finland that year instead?

And then we have their (Slovakia's) overlooked 90's entries aswell.

I feel really sorry for them, and I said it before and I stick to my opinion, if Horehronie (with the exact same artist + performance), would have been under let's say Turkish flag for instance, it would have managed a spot in the final and most probably top. 10 there.

But Slovakia? No, not interesting enough for voters and juries.

I rest my case

So no, I’m not surprised at all if they wanted to pull out and if they eventually starting to send bad entries, because clearly it doesn't matter what they do.
