Re: SERBIA 2016 - ZAA - Goodbye

I love the Serbian entry, one of the better songs this year. A fantastic singer, it may be a repetitive but I'm not bothered by it for some reason.

On a side note, I can't help but think of the Bosnian entry from 1997 when I read Goodbye. The songs have nothing in common, except for the title but I can't help it, I keep singing it every time I check this thread.

Why we don't have official video for Serbian entry on the top of the page?
And official song title is Goodbye (Shalter)

I don't like what she wears and how she acts. I'm not sure if I like this song either. Gosh, when was the last time I liked Serbian entry? xthink

"Goodbye (Shelter)"

I wish I could stop it, I wish I could fight it,
But there’s nothing I can do,
I thought that we were meant for each other
Oh, how I wish I knew you better

I played a fool so many times, can’t even count it.

Every time I say goodbye,
you try to hold me by your side
Gotta fight my way out of your hands,
find the shelter from the pain

Every time you say your lies,
I hide away and close my eyes,
I won’t let you tear my world apart,
gotta find a shelter for my heart

I thought that it was supposed to hurt me,
I thought that it was love,
I put my hands up but I won’t surrender
don’t need what doesn’t serve me any more

I lick my wounds, so that I can keep on fighting.

Every time I say goodbye…

Every time I say goodbye, you try to break me down

I like the song but her ridiculous overacting really spoils the pleasure of it. Makes the performance so artificial.....

You know I think once you place her image and performance within the context of the domestic abuse message, it makes perfect sense.
Her jerky and sudden movements are like a victim trying to dodge hits, like she is reliving what she is singing, and her garish "clown" make-up is like she has literally painted on a strong face to try and cover up the visible signs of physical abuse that lies beneath.....it seems a lot of thought has gone into this presentation and I really love that.

You are right, but 100 million viewers at first listening, watching her performance will not analyze it as you did. She and her team have to find other way of expression.

I can't by no means follow your interpretation. To me her interpretation does not reflect at all the lyrics nor the subject of the song (which by the way is not very well recognizable in the lyrics btw).

This song has so strong message and Sanja is amazing performer that brings is on right way! However, song is still eurovisionih but not in cheesy way. I was skeptic because her work as artist is not my cup of tea but this is really great.

Lyrics sound more powerful in English, at least to me, but maybe not the same impression for those who don't understand Serbian.

Obviously I didnt understand a word of what Sanja was singing in serbian. I really like the english lyrics. And in fact I prefer the english version - or it is just that I have gotten used to it?

Dear fellow Serbian ESC fans, do you by any chance know where we can watch the video of yesterday's RTS 'Jutarnji program'? I've read that Nina Kraljić performed 'Lighthouse' live and I'm dying to see it...

Good interview, nice to know more about Sanja though I wish she was asked specifically about her unique performance style and how that came about.
