YESTERDAY: tie for the 10th place (for 1st time )

Jury and televoting agreed for only 6 songs, 2 have qualified thanks to jury, 2 thanks to televoting

My prediction - jury: Lithuania and Malta/BiH, televoting: Norway and Turkey  (maybe?)

Tied for 10th place Slovenia (or Croatia maybe? Wouldn't be suprised, I think that it got high pts from EX-YU countries)

Re: SEMI FINAL 2 - DISCUSSION - May 24th: 21:00 CET

"Pastora Soler, Spain's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, has been asked not to win the competition because of the cost of putting the event on next year.
The singer was also sent the tongue-in-cheek message from Spanish broadcaster TVE saying 'Please, don't win!'.
“I think it is not the moment, neither for Spain nor for Spanish public, to win Eurovision,” she said.
“If we won, I think it would be impossible to stage the next edition because it costs so much money.”
In the Eurovision rules, the winner of the event has to foot the bill of hosting the competition the following year.

The Spanish government has already had to slash its funding to broadcasting this year."

DOES TURKEY PROCEED TO THE GRAND FINAL WITH "ITS DIASPORA"?

hey I'm new to this forums. I've read most of discussion going here about Semi 2. I'm a Turkish scientist so I want to see if I'm biased or not.

I totally agree with most of you about Slovenia and Portugal. IMO they should really proceed to the final instead of Malta and Lithuania. On the other hand, I totally disagree with some of you who says Turkey does not deserve being at final and achieved being at final with some diaspora they have. IMO Turkish entry is great this year contrary to last year entry which was terrible. So I wanted to check myself if I'm biased.

Now I wanted to analyze this diaspora issue. So, did Turkey really proceed to the grand final with the votes of lots of Turkish people living in Europe despite of "a bad song"? Therefore, I am going to list other countries in semi 2 which gave at least 8 points to Turkey at last three years (2008, 2009, 2010) and 0 points at last three years (2008, 2009, 2010).

The countries (from semi 2) always giving high scores (8, 10, 12) to Turkey:
- Netherlands (10, 8, 8 .. that means 10 points in 2008, 8 in 2009 and 8 in 2010)

The countries (from semi 2) always giving low scores (0, 1, 2) to Turkey:
- Belarus (3, 0, 3 .. that means 3 points in 2008, 0 in 2009 and 3 in 2010)
- Portugal (0, 3, 0)
- Slovenia (0, 0, 2)

Well as you see only Netherlands regulary gives 8 and above points to Turkey from semi 2 countries. (There are also Macedonia and Bosnia giving high points but they did not give 8 above points for both of three years).

On the contrary, there are three countries which give always 3 and lower points even in 2010 at which manga's song was great for a common voice and ranked 2nd at final.

So with regular support of only 1 (or maybe 3 with addition of Macedonia and Bosnia) country is not sufficient to go to grand final. You need to have a good song. If you do not have (as Turkey did not have the last year) you cannot go to the grand final.

This regular support thing helps a lot to Balkans countries, Scandivaian Countries and Old Soviet Countries. But still you need a powerful song to go to the Grand Final.

Contrary to 70s, 80s and 90s, Turkey sends really good songs if we consider last ten years. The reason for that is winner song of Sertap. She awaked public's interest on ESC after she won 2003 and also government started to pay really high money and work for Eurovision.

2003 - Sertap - Every Way That I can (Winner)
2004 - Athena - For Real (4th, one of best in esc)
2005 - Gulseren - Rimi Rimi Ley (13th, it's ok)
2006 - Sibel Tuzun - Superstar (11th, it's ok)
2007 - Kenan Dogulu - Shake it up Shekerim ( 4th, not my taste but a good pop song)
2008 - Hadise - Dum Tek Tek (4th, not my taste but a real catchy pop song)
2009 - Mor ve Otesi - Deli (7th, really a great song)
2010 - Manga - We could be the same (2nd, a great one too)
2011 - Yuksek Sadakat - Live it up (could not go to the final, an average song)

To sum up, I do not think Turkey always has a slot for grand final because of some "diaspora" it has. If it sends a bad song, it cannot proceed to grand final as you saw last year. The success of Turkey for last years is about the increase at the popularity of ESC in Turkey with the winning of Sertap in 2003 and the push of government.

thank you.

Wow! How did you get that kind of information? I think it was between Portugal and Bulgaria or Turkey and Slovenia

These are the songs +performances I liked the most:

01.:rs: SERBIA (SIMPLY AWESOME)
02.:se: SWEDEN (It's good, but I'm too used to watch this)
03.:ee: ESTONIA (I really love this song!)
04.:rs: NETHERLANDS (NOT flawless, but a nice presentation and very good song that SHOULD have qualified...I still love this one)
05.:ba: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA (Flawless)
06.:mk: FYR MACEDONIA (GREAT performance and this song grew on me)
07. NORWAY (Out of tune, but I like the song and the general performance)
08.:hr: CROATIA (Very nice!! Should have qualified, OF COURSE!)
09.:pt: PORTUGAL (I'm probably biased, but one of the GREAT performances of the semi)
10.:mt: MALTA (I don't like the song, but GREAT and very appealing performance, they deserve being in the final)

and:

11. Slovenia (not such a good performance, out of tune and it annoyed me a bit)
12. Belarus (a good performance, a nice song, but overall too average to reach the final)
13. Turkey (very good performance, but this song is annoying and it goes nowhere)
14. Lithuania (even more annoying and kinda weird)
15. Bulgaria (hum... didn't convince me at all, in the middle of the performance I was tired of listening to this)
16. Slovakia (didn't mean anything to me and he screams too much)
17. Georgia (terrible song and a great performance)
18. Ukraine (same as Georgia, but this song is even worse)

I couldn't agree more with "wayneofway"
I wish we didn't come out of the last envelope. Now, people tend to think Slovenia(or Portugal or whatever) couldn't qualify because of Turkey.
Who knows? Maybe Turkey was the winner of the 2nd semifinal.
but when the last envelope was about to open, everyone was expecting their fave to qualify and as they saw Turkey, they are blaming Turkey for it.
If Malta was the last one, they would put the blame on them.
I don't want to sound biased but a final without Turkey would be like a soup without salt.
I wish Turks weren't the only people who defend us against the accusations of diaspora votes.

Oh please.. logic? Azerbadzjan loves Turkey and vice versa and the majority of all the espectators is from Azerbadzjan. It would be like when Sweden hosted and everyone screamed: Norway!
btw i think jury hated Turkey

I bet Lithuania got 10th place, and I think either Slovenia or the Netherlands tied score-wise but lost out in the end.

Yap, TVE says " Please Pastora don't win, because we don't be able to manage the festival next year....". FTW?

Pastora said that they misquoted her words, she just said that as a joke, and then people (probably haters) made a big topic out of it!

This is very strange. Yesterday I felt like nobody was on this forum, except for me, Franco and Margerita86. No one posted in 3 hrs. Today I realize that everything I posted has disappeared, and that a lot of people were here at around midnight. I suspected something, but this forum really is messing with me.

Anyway, Congratulations to every country that made it to the final! Lithuania was a big surprise for me. It's impossible to make head or tail of that song. One moment it feels like turning into upbeat, next second he sounds like an opera singer. Crazy song and I don't get it.

Is anyone watching the Dress Rehearsal 2 (Jury Final)? If yes, I'd appreciate a link.
