I have absolutely no clue. Maybe they had some totally epic idea but then realized the reason why it was "never seen before on Eurovision stage" is simply because it was something physically impossible.
In an interview he said that he and his team worked on staging for a couple of months but when they arrived to Stockholm, SVT told them that it's not technically possible to do what they wanted to do, so they came up with what we saw yesterday in a few days.Well, after Serhat said in several interviews that we should prepare ourselves for some "big surprise" and "something never seen on Eurovision stage", I am quite disappointed. I expected something excitingly surreal and over-the-top, while this is just... a very conventional staging.
