Unfortunately this confirms that small countries can't make success in favour to big ones. They can always be exception that confirms rule but in 95% of cases it is impossible.

But they should keep trying for another 1 or 2 more years... But I think as long as RAI keep paying half of the San-Marinese fee, they'll keep participating

I don't think they'd like to keep going... all countries are stronger, simply - neighbors or diaspora or similar group (ex-yu, post-soviet). There is no hope, none.
I think there should be something like INTERNAL semi final in style of 1996 when there was audio-only semifinal. It should be created for San Marino, Andorra, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Monaco - they send songs, IF they qualify they pay small partcipation fee and they should fight for 1 or 2 spots in the final (depends how many countries would contribute). This is seriously disgusting, because San Marino is chanceless and they Italy couldn't even vote for them in the semi... is that fair when all other countries had someone to vote for them?

I also think that they will just give up now. Excellent song, great promotion, huge fanbase and still not enough for the final.
Now its confirmed that small country just cant get into final regardless of the song they send. This is so sad.

I think we won't see San Marino in the contest any time soon! The sad thing is, whilst 'Crisalide' was widely loved as a fan favourite, most of us written off its qualifying chances because it's from San Marino and not from Greece/Russia/Ukraine etc

Of course, they won't They have a big neighbor that pays for them a large part of the fee, so it's almost a gift for such a tiny state to enter the contest
