I think it would be fair if Australia opens. Than the Aussies have to see the contest from the beginning. And not stay another hour in bed because Australia performs late. Because how can they choose who to vote for? Choose from the recaps?

1. Australia

I can actually see them screwing Sweden over this year in order to let Australia shine more so that there's a higher chance they'll stick around... I suppose we'll see :D

Even a worse scenario... Sweden is one of the better songs, but it's cold and wannabe-American and quite frankly formulaic and borderline souless... but Australia is miles worse...

Australia is just a VERY VERY lame Bruno Mars copy and quite frankly a pretty meh song without any good melody or hook (it certainly makes Sweden look like a masterpiece ) and I know that Jan Ola Sand and EBU are trying to coup them in (the whole "anniversary guest" is just a lie like everything else that comes from these peoples' mouths) so yeah I'm afraid you might be right... and this will be the beginning of the end (starting this year) of the ESC as we know it...

What I disagree with you on is the quality. I find a lot of this year's ballads to be stunning. Hungary, Poland, Norway, France and Greece. I don't like the saccharine sweet ones like Iceland and Russia.

I don't get this comment... Hungary sounds like a sleepy Americanized lullaby and Greece and Poland are wailing Disney clichés while France is just boring... Iceland and Russia are then more interesting than these (although they too are pretty meh)... the only one I can "get" the appeal of here is Norway that has some sort of originality and "personality" to it...

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I find Russia to be a terribly manufactured Disney pile of crap. It's just far too sweet to connect to me in any way. Iceland was just a poor-man's Only Teardrops in ballad form with an even worse singer. Her performance in the jury rehearsal was physically painful to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I actually agree with you on those songs too... but I'm a bit surprised you'd point out clichés like Poland and Greece and the utterly boring Hungary as some sort of counterparts to these when I'd say they are pretty much in the same category...

The funny thing is Sweden could still win from Second.
Is "Heroes" strong enough to defy 60 years of Eurovision history? Not in my eyes, but you never know.

I would hate to see Sweden win this year but I actually dont favour placing any of the favourites in those slots, it seems like sabotage to me.

Considering the halves of the other favourites, Sweden will stand out a mile wherever it is, because it's unforgettable. The stage show alone will stick with people. Obviously drawing second (like I predict) would be a blow to it's chances, but it would still be the favourite to win in my book.

Any country ending up as the dreaded #2 would get disappointed though, no? :p

I remember the show, it was the best.
I forgot the song, the melody, the lyrics, the voice....

If you'll excuse me MHIY, what is the reason for UK getting the best spot in the first half? Seems a little biased? Maybe to drown out some of the early second half ballads?
